JOB SUMMARY As the Mechanical Engineer in Training (EIT), you’re engaged and intrigued by the unexplained, you dive deep into the analysis to improve existing or create new products. You will work alongside other engineers on the development of high-performing mountain bike components. You’ll manage new product concepts through the NPI process from initiation to launch. You have a strong background in mechanical design and manufacturing practices and are not afraid to roll up your sleeves to get things done. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Bring product concepts to life through the successful execution of the NPI process, strong focus on innovation, high performance, and state-of-the-art Stay informed on industry trends and knowledge to provide the best insight into new product development Design and develop models in 3D CAD software (Onshape), with a focus on strong Industrial Design Perform stress analysis using FEA and with a strong understanding, select appropriate materials Create 2D fabrication and assembly drawings from the 3D models, using appropriate tolerance stack-up and GD&T; collaborate with vendors for feedback and tooling adjustments Evaluate prototype and production parts for performance, fit, finish, and manufacturability; drive corrective actions with suppliers Collaborate directly with overseas vendors on component and tooling design to support scalable manufacturing Create prototypes to be bench-tested and ridden for improved understanding of performance Test products to understand their limitations in performance and real-world expectations Explore new technologies and manufacturing methods to push the limits on what has been done in the bike industry Ensure and maintain product quality through design reviews with the engineering team, strong engineering practices and a continuous improvement mindset Travel domestically and internationally as needed (up to four weeks per year) SKILLS & ABILITIES NEEDED Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field 1-3+ years of experience in product development and or engineering Experience designing for high-volume consumer products Excellent 3D CAD modeling skills, OnShape or Solidworks preferred Experience in manufacturing and the bike industry Experience in working with overseas vendors In-depth knowledge of Engineering processes and principles Strong understanding of materials science in metals and alloys, carbon fiber, plastics, etc. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Strong RCA and investigation skills, ability to deduce effective solutions and enact them Excellent communication skills Proven success designing products with customer safety and quality in mind Certifications such as Six Sigma, Lean are a plus COMPENSATION & WORK TIME REQUIRED The position is for 9 full-time days out of every 10; every second week, you will have an extra day off. The position assumes a Monday-Friday schedule with every second Friday off. 8 hours/day with a 30-minute paid lunch break. (36h/week average), flexible hours within reason and approval. This compensation package will be dependent on experience, qualifications, industry experience and the interview with a potential range of up to $70,000 - $80,000 CAD/year, paid semi-monthly. 12 vacation days per year, renewable annually. Eligible to participate in yearly profit sharing/bonus structure prorated for the first year, this will be evaluated based on the performance of agreed-upon goals and responsibilities.
