Your Opportunity at ARC’TERYX:
As the Preferred Materials Program Manager, your primary focus will be on
supporting our cross-functional teams to achieve our preferred materials
targets, which are critical to the achievement of our science-based climate
targets as well as our circularity goals. With your in-depth knowledge of the
environmental and social impacts of textiles and other materials used in outdoor
apparel, footwear and gear manufacturing, you will use your expertise to develop
guidance documents and training and provide 1:1 support and insights to our raw
materials, merchandizing and product design teams, among others. In addition to
in-depth subject matter expertise, you will also be responsible for program
management, supporting the ongoing development of the preferred materials
roadmap and collaborating to build the tools required to communicate our
progress with internal and external stakeholders. This role is expected to
evolve in our dynamic environment, and will require persistence, adaptability
and inventiveness to problem solve alongside business partners in the challenges
presented when driving large scale impact initiatives.
This role is based out of our North Vancouver office and is open to hybrid
remote work. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

Our Sustainability team is small, mighty and operates in close contact with our
leadership team and business functions for the highest impact. We have a core
team of passionate experts responsible for developing strategy, programming and
measuring progress against our company sustainability goals. We are part of the
supply chain organization and work with key partners throughout Arc’teryx and
Amer Sports.

If you were in the Preferred Materials Program Manager role now, here are some
of the core activities you would be doing:
- Acting as the primary point of contact for internal leaders and teams on all
things preferred materials— including identifying where and when to provide
guidance, delivering that guidance effectively, and responding directly to
questions and requests for clarification
- Applying your research, collaboration with experts inside the company, and
your own expertise to developing and delivering regular robust internal
guidance documents, trainings and tools which provide internal teams with
clear, science-based guidance to support education and understanding of what
preferred materials are and why they matter, on the road to achieving our
preferred materials targets
- Working cross-functionally to establish a single preferred materials roadmap
which reflects the cross-functional commitments required and progress against
them to achieve our goals.
- Developing the program management to ensure that we maintain visibility of
our progress against our preferred materials roadmap and that achievements
are celebrated, obstacles are surfaced, and that updates are clearly and
consistently shared
- Developing a point of view and advising Arc’teryx supply chain and product
leadership on preferred materials related policy and process to enable
responsible and informed decision making. Support in shaping how preferred
materials is approached and embedded more permanently into core business
practices
- Maintaining awareness of the regulatory environment and implications of
upcoming regulations and collaborating with our Amer and Arc’teryx compliance
functions to ensure we remain in compliance on preferred materials related
matters
- Connecting with the industry sustainability and preferred materials community
for inspiration and collaboration opportunities
- Supporting brand and employee communications and transparency initiatives
that relate to preferred materials, and ensuring that our cross-functional
partners’ efforts are celebrated in internal and external channels as
appropriate
- Collaborating cross-functionally to ensure we have efficient ways of working
which enable and empower our colleagues and leaders to make informed
decisions with the right information at the right time
- Overseeing the development and reporting out on the right set of KPIs to
monitor the success of our preferred materials initiatives
Here are some of the things you could be working on in the future:
- Identifying new strategic initiatives to achieve our preferred materials
goals and creating the cross-functional momentum and alignment to achieve
them
- Creating a long-term vision along with cross-functional partners for
preferred materials at Arc’teryx
- Leading engagement with certain external partners and/or NGOs
- Partnering with our innovation team to provide insights and support in
execution on new materials explorations as needed
Are you our next Preferred Materials Program Manager?
- You have an undergraduate and/or graduate degree related to textiles science,
change management, sustainable business, environmental science and/or
business related field with appropriate certifications or an equivalent
combination of related education and experience
- You have 5+ years of experience in initiating, developing and leading
sustainability strategy and/or management consulting experience in
sustainability, with at least 3 years of experience working directly in
textiles sustainability and impact topics.
- You have apparel industry experience, with a strong understanding of apparel
and footwear industry materials, their environmental impact, and best
practices for managing them
- You have a strong operations mindset with a good understanding of the
business operations required to bring an apparel product to life.
- You have expertise in the current and emerging sustainability principles,
practices, regulations and technologies related to the environmental and
social impact of textiles and the textiles industry.
- You have experience with change management within a fast moving, complex
business environment
- You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues and developing
solutions
- You are a builder that thrives in ambiguity and developing new programs and
processes
- You are highly collaborative with demonstrated effectiveness at building
strong partnerships inside and outside your core team
- You have excellent communication and presentation skills
- You can effectively manage multiple projects and strategize around competing
priorities
- You are an independent worker, exceptionally organized, operate with
integrity, and maintain personal accountability

$94,000 - $117,000 a year
A reasonable estimate of the pay range is CAD $97,000 - CAD $117,000 at the time
of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such
as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
Please note that the range details above reflect the base pay only and does not
include our competitive bonus program and benefits that we offer.
