As a member of the LEO Satellite Operations team, the LEO Flight Operations
Engineer will support engineering aspects related to ensuring effective in-orbit
operations of all on-board subsystems on the Lightspeed satellite bus, in order
to maximize subsystem health, performance and commercial availability. This
includes working, in collaboration, with others within the Satellite Operations
team as well as other Lightspeed segments to improve efficiencies, through
innovation, across all facets of in-orbit fleet operations.

Responsibilities:
- Supports integration of SCS systems and development of satellite operations
products;
- Supports testing, validation and verification of SatOps systems;
- Participates in satellite operations products development and implementation
into the SCS systems;
- Implements satellite operations concepts of operations (CONOPS) for LEOP and
routine operations phases;
- Participates in testing, validation and verification of SatOps products, SCS
system deliveries and training;
- Supports maintenance of satellite operating procedures;
- Supports automation development for satellite operations procedures; tracks
performance;
- Contributes in Satellite Data Platform (SDP) analytics development and
maintenance;
- Refines satellite control processes;
- Provide engineering oversight to satellite controllers during all phases of
operations;
- Provide technical assistance and/or training on all matters pertaining to the
development and use of the satellite operations products and supporting
trending and analysis tools.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor degree in an Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical or Computer
Engineering, or the equivalent;
- A background in Aerospace technologies and expertise in satellite operations
software systems and development;
- Minimum of 1-2-years experience with Satellite subsystems would be an asset;
- Knowledge of satellite subsystem design and operation is an asset;
- Knowledge of electronics, control systems and radio frequency communications;
- Experience in developing software with a variety of platforms and programming
tools;
- Strong analytical, problem solving, real-time decision-making, planning and
organizational skills;
- Excellent verbal and written English communications skills;
- Independent and self-motivated, with the ability to work effectively both
individually and in a team environment
- Knowledge of containerized software platforms is an asset;
- Experience in C and Python programming is an asset.
Decision Making and Supervision:
- Make decisions and recommendations governed by general policy.
Recommendations are reviewed for technical soundness or judgment but are
generally accepted as technically accurate ;
- Influence decisions on the technical development of operational concepts;
- Manage development projects including collaboration with other operational
staff;
- Provide engineering guidance to SOC staff;
- When in a shift environment; provide engineering guidance during the
operations phase.

Successful candidate must possess (or be eligible to obtain) a CGP security
clearance. Working environment is in the Lightspeed SOC in Ottawa and/or
Gatineau. Expect normal business hours during the design/development phase and
shift work during the operations phase. Support during emergency response
activities may require a call-out. Occasional international travel may be
required as necessary.
