Job Description: THE COMPANY 4GL Solutions is a software company that has been in business since 1984 and specializes in the development and distribution of ERP software for Steel Service Centers in North America and Internationally. THE POSITION Reporting to the R&D Manager and partnering with our Systems Administrator, Support team, and developers, you will own the automation and reliability layer that keeps our Oracle-backed ERP platform and its complementary products shipping fast and running smoothly. You thrive on variety, learn fast, and inject proven ideas from past roles to refine existing procedures and introduce new ones we haven’t even imagined. What you’ll do Automate customer upgrade workflows, reducing manual touchpoints and deployment time. Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines (i.e. GitHub Actions). Drive observability: build internal dashboards, alerts, and SLOs. Continually refine processes, introducing proven DevOps best practices to boost deployment frequency and reliability. Identify and introduce smarter ways to run our Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and on-prem servers, including networking and best practices. Research alternatives to our Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), such as AWS and Azure. Document as you go. Knowledge-share with other team members. Participate in an on-call rotation and offer after-hours support when required. This is a fully remote position with optional monthly/quarterly meetings at our Markham, ON office. Applicants must be located within North America. What you bring Post-secondary education in an IT field or equivalent practical experience. 3+ years in DevOps/SRE roles, supporting production workloads in the cloud and on-prem. Hands-on with CI/CD tools, including GitHub Actions. Comfortable with a scripting language (Python or Bash). Solid networking fundamentals (VPN, VPC, firewalls) and experience tuning Linux for performance. Familiarity with Oracle 19c database or other enterprise RDBMS a plus. Pragmatic mindset: you measure results, automate relentlessly, and document as you go. Ability to work independently and in a small team.
