Sr. Engineering Technician Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly) Department: CTO – Advanced System Technologies Position Summary The Sr. Engineering Technician is responsible for performing highly mechanical, electrical and technical prototype development for the fuel cell industry. The person in this role is expected to work both independently in an engineering laboratory environment as well as under the direction of an engineer, scientist or technologist and is responsible for a variety of tasks, including system, subsystem and component prototype development, characterization testing, recording data, protecting the accuracy and efficiency of engineering experiments, maintaining equipment and tools, and keeping the lab organized and in good working condition. In addition, this person is expected to operate a small-scale test stand for short and full-size stack testing and development. Core Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for fuel cell system, subsystem and component prototype development, including related support equipment Conduct balance of plant (BOP) experiments and characterization testing, gather data, and perform all investigations Fabricate first-build prototype parts with inhouse milling machine, drill press, hand tools, etc. Responsible for fabrication of all prototype wiring harnesses, piping, etc. Assemble first prototype components and subsystems; responsible for prototype systems integration Provide support to the Engineering team for commissioning and troubleshooting prototypes Operate lab equipment, including, but not limited to, operating short and full-size stack and small-scale test stands, mechanical presses for bipolar plate fabrication, die-cutters, etc. Adjust, calibrate and ensure the proper function of laboratory equipment and instruments Perform additional lab functions and tests as required Maintain accurate and detailed records of research findings and enter results in a database Disinfect and clean working area and equipment, keeping the lab in good working condition and organized Follow strict safety procedures and perform safety checks Order and stock lab supplies such as hydrogen gas cylinders, etc. Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with other engineers and technologists Follow strict guidelines and regulations (for all work) Provide in-house technical support ·Maintain highest ethical standards and a commitment to superior work quality Education and Experience Must have a High School Diploma Minimum of five (5) years of mechanical/electrical experience, three years in the hydrogen fuel cell industry preferred; four years in automotive diagnostic and repair experience a plus Demonstrated experience working in an engineering laboratory following safety rules, procedures and techniques as well as using equipment and apparatus for prototype development Demonstrated knowledge of hydrogen gas cylinder safety Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as an effective member of a team Plug Power Inc. is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
