As the Sales Manager your primary responsibility will be on proactively sourcing
and closing new business for the Hamilton Convention Centre. You will manage
incoming inquiries, build relationships with new and existing clients, and use
your sales expertise to convert leads into booked events. Your focus will be on
corporate clientele and large scale functions, ensuring communications, tours
and proposals reflect the quality and professionalism of our brand.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Proactively hunt for new sales leads through outbound outreach, networking,
cold calling and industry events
- Attract and secure new avenues of business by selling the City of Hamilton as
a destination in addition to our facility
- Work with the City of Hamilton’s Tourism department to submit applications to
host a variety of city wide events
- Cultivate relationships with key decision makers, businesses and associations
in Hamilton and surrounding markets
- Generate and close event sales opportunities for corporate and large scale
clients
- Conduct client consultations and site tours to present venue options and
offerings
- Prepare and present customized proposals and contracts; follow up to secure
bookings
- Respond promptly and professionally to inbound event inquiries
- Use upselling techniques to maximize revenue and client value
- Maintain accurate records of sales activity
- Meet or exceed sales targets and KPIs
- Represent the Hamilton Convention Centre at tradeshows, business networking
events and meetings with Tourism Hamilton and other industry partners
- Keep up with industry trends, competitor offerings and best practices to stay
ahead of the market
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Business, Hospitality, Event Management, Tourism,
Communications, or a related field
- CPSA certification or CEM, CMP, CMM designation considered an asset
- 5 + years experience in business to business sales, preferably in the
hospitality, events, tourism or corporate services sector (associations, not
for profit, and Government)
- Proven ability to prospect and secure new business
- Demonstrated success in B2B sales with a focus on events or service based
industries
- Experience selling to corporate clients and high volume event organizers
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Strong hunter mentality – motivated by targets and new client acquisition
- Strong interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills
- Highly organized
- Confidence in cold outreach and initiating new business relationships
