THE POSITION
The STC Urban AHS Educational Assistant/Bus Driver Position is supervised by STC Early Learning Program Manager. The main duties for this position include:
- Working alongside the Teacher in offering a play-based program, both indoors and outdoors;
- Cleaning and preparing the indoor and outdoor classrooms for daily activities;
- Assisting the Home Visitor in offering a parent support program, and preparing home visiting materials.
- Transporting children to and from the program and to planned excursions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Saskatchewan Driver’s License Class 4. A valid Class 5 with ability to immediately complete Class 4 requirements will also be considered;
- Minimum of ECE level 1 is required;
- First Aid and CPR certification;
- Experience driving a 15-passenger van or a school bus;
- Minimum of one-year related experience in working with young children;
- Safe Food Handling certification will be considered an asset;
- Good interpersonal communication skills;
- Experience working with vulnerable populations;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team;
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, good problem solver;
- Dependable and reliable; have good work ethics;
- Willing to take additional training in early childhood development;
- Knowledge of the political, social and economic objectives of the Saskatoon Tribal Council and of the Dakota, Cree, and Saulteaux cultures will be considered an asset;
- Knowledge of an aboriginal language will be considered an asset;
- Must provide a current Canadian Criminal Records Check (CPIC) and a Vulnerable Sector Check as a condition of employment; and
- Must meet STC’s insurance requirements;
CONDITIONS OF WORK:
- Position is 7.5 hours a day, Monday to Friday;
- Some evening work required for cultural and family events;
- Orientation will be provided for classroom and home visiting work;
- Will be required to drive either a 14-passenger school bus or a 15-passenger van to pick-up and drop off children;
- Follow all STC Policies and Procedures, and ensure all Accreditation Standards are met.
