The Estimator / Design Drafter plays a key role in bringing Mill-Right Woodworking projects to life—transforming concepts into precise, competitive estimates and detailed design plans that ensure every custom millwork project is delivered with accuracy, quality, and craftsmanship.
How you’ll spend your day:
Receive and manage tender invitations, coordinating all aspects of the bid process from document review to final submission.
Analyze drawings, specifications, and site conditions to prepare accurate, complete takeoffs and cost estimates.
Communicate regularly with subcontractors and suppliers—issuing Requests for Quotes, gathering pricing, and maintaining up-to-date vendor information.
Prepare comprehensive proposals and tender forms for submission, ensuring all details are accurate and compliant.
Support awarded projects through detailed handovers, contract reviews, and coordination with project stakeholders.
Produce precise shop drawings and 3D models of cabinetry and millwork components using specialized design software.
Revise and update drawings to reflect design changes or consultant feedback, ensuring quality and accuracy.
Design tools, jigs, and fixtures that support efficient and consistent production.
Participate in team and production meetings, contributing ideas for continuous improvement and innovation.
Uphold and promote Mill-Right’s Safety First & Always culture in every aspect of your work.
What will help you thrive:
Post-secondary degree/diploma in engineering, construction management, architecture, industrial design or related field.
Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, codes and industry terminology.
Proven ability to accurately read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and other technical documents.
Experience using drafting, modeling, and design detailing technologies.
Demonstrated ability to adapt software skills to evolving project needs, balancing technical accuracy with design creativity.
Exceptional numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Highly organized with the capability to manage tight deadlines and competing priorities.
Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Proficient in MS365 applications, including SharePoint and Teams.
Commitment to and alignment with Mill-Right’s core values: Communication, Accountability, Relationships, and Excellence (C.A.R.E.).
Professional designations such as PQS, CET or Estimator Gold Seal designations will be considered an asset.
Familiarity with construction estimating tools such as SmartBidNet, Planswift, and Bluebeam.
2 years’ experience estimating commercial millwork projects is preferred.
