Ameresco has an immediate opening for a Project Director based in Alberta, Canada. Responsibilities: Provide Senior Level Project Management, support, and oversight for Federal Projects in Western Canada. Oversee the Federal project lifecycle, including feasibility, budgeting, scheduling, execution, and completion. Team Leadership & Development – Demonstrate proven leadership skills to supervise, mentor, and train project staff, including Project Managers, Construction Managers and Project Coordinators. Quality Assurance - Ensure construction is executed per approved plans, specifications, and quality standards. Contract Management - Negotiate and manage subcontracts, purchase orders, change orders, and contract responsibilities Relationship Management - Maintain strong relationships with owners, architects, consultants, subcontractors, and public stakeholders Manage budgets, cost forecasting, cash flow, payment requests, and change orders; ensure accurate financial tracking Develop, monitor, and update project schedules, identify the critical path, and implement recovery actions when needed Enforce corporate health and safety programs, ensuring compliance with Ameresco and client health & safety obligations. Collaboration with Engineering to ensure design development and coordination aligns with project goals, schedule and progress. Manage all administrative functions according to company policies, leveraging project management systems Provide monthly reports on cost forecasts, schedules, cash flow, and project reforecasts. Lead project close-out efforts, including archiving documentation, commissioning, resolving deficiencies, and ensuring warranty work Plan logistics, oversee site coordination, conduct meetings, and manage site administration Strategically oversee risk across the project and ensure mitigation measures are effectively implemented Provide a structured decision-making framework, ensuring clear accountability and escalation mechanisms Use robust project control systems for cost, schedule, and performance tracking, ensuring projects stay on track Sourcing resources for project managers as the project demands dictate Provide input to project team to consider alternate measures and suppliers to ensure we are not complacent based on past practice. Incorporate and integrate experiences from other projects with project managers to ensure best practices. Provide support and backup for project managers, as required. Achieve client and company spend/revenue targets Ensure compliance with our contractual obligations (to client and to subcontractors) Skills and Competencies: Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills Excellent organizational and time management skills Ability to work independently and as a part of a regional team Ability to adapt to changing environments and priorities Provide deliverables with a high degree of efficiency and accuracy Strong technical understanding of mechanical, HVAC, building automation systems (controls), and electrical systems Fundamental understanding of budgeting, cost control, schedule, and billing procedures Fundamental understanding of building technologies, mechanical and electrical equipment and systems is an asset. Minimum Qualifications: Related university degree, certifications or training with equivalent experience. A minimum of 10 years of combined related technical, design and project management experience, with demonstrated leadership skills and experience. Minimum of 5 years commercial/industrial power, electrical, mechanical, or engineering construction management experience focusing on complex facility infrastructure construction, renovations, retrofits, upgrades, building controls and automation, and energy services. Must have valid class 5 Alberta drivers’ license, in good standing. Required to obtain Federal Reliability Status security clearance as a condition of employment. Ability to travel to project sites in Western Canada. Additional Qualifications: Engineering degree, or technical diploma. Experience delivering Energy Performance Contracting (EPC/ESCO) construction models. Project Management Professional (PMP) designation. Experience delivering projects within Government of Canada agencies, departments, or environments. Experience with construction health & safety programs and certifications such as COR and/or ISO45001. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, and Adobe. Familiar with National Master Specification tender documents Proven experience with Alberta safety standards, additional safety certifications and courses through Alberta Construction Safety Association or another accredited provider, Leadership through Safety Excellence (LSE) through Alberta Construction Safety Association or equivalent Proven understanding of project management standards, principles and methodologies.
