Black & McDonald is currently seeking an experienced HVAC Refrigeration Technician to join our team! The position is located at the Teck Acute Care Centre (TACC) at the Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Vancouver, BC and reports directly to the Facility Manager.
The HVAC/R Technician is responsible for maintenance, repairs and operations of all HVAC & refrigeration systems and equipment within the TACC. Under specific direction, performs preventive and demand maintenance on HVAC and mechanical equipment to ensure continuing operation. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Keeps all HVAC and refrigeration systems and equipment in safe and proper working conditions.
Completes HVAC and refrigeration work such as:
o Perform preventative, corrective & demand maintenance work on all HVAC and refrigeration related equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
o Troubleshoot equipment to locate & repair problems, replace filters, check for leaks and refill/replace refrigerants.
o Inspect, install, repair and replace equipment components and faulty parts including BAS components.
o Respond to environment and comfort complaints.
o Keep accurate maintenance records including work performed and parts materials parts used.
o Maintain, overhaul and repair automatic temperature controls, VAV boxes, heat exchangers, and other related equipment.
o Completes work including new installations and alterations.
o Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
Complete maintenance records and work orders.
Observe and implement safety regulations and practices.
Observe and implement applicable regulations made under the Provincial and Federal statues and Municipal by-laws.
Ensure HVAC and refrigeration systems stocks are kept in a secure location and inventory levels are maintained and recorded.
Maintain the cleanliness of all shops and mechanical rooms.
Update HVAC and refrigeration related documentation (drawings, specifications, O&M manuals, valve tag charts, etc.).
Participate and support other duties as assigned including assisting other maintenance trades.
Perform other duties as assigned, including non-related HVAC and refrigeration duties.
Available to work stand-by hours, shift work and overtime.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid BC or Inter Provincial HVAC Journeyman trade ticket.
Limited electrical license.
Knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration codes, Health and Safety Act and all applicable CSA Codes.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in all aspects of institutional HVAC and refrigeration equipment maintenance, preferably in a hospital environment.
Working knowledge of building services including air conditioning, BAS, refrigeration and electrical and mechanical equipment controls and systems.
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations including but not limited to: use or wear of equipment or protective devices or clothing for safety purposes, report any known contravention of this Act or regulations or the existence of any hazards.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills required.

Expected compensation for this role is $49.92/hour in accordance with the UA Local 516 union rates.
