Job Description: POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Christmas Campaign Coordinator, the Volunteer Coordinator will work in cooperation with The Christmas Campaign and Toy Drive Coordinators to ensure a full volunteer roster and oversee volunteers involved in a variety of roles, including application intake with households, hamper and toy sorting, working in the toy centre, setup of the shopping area, greeters, and personal shoppers during distribution. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Volunteer Recruitment & Onboarding Recruit volunteers through online postings, community outreach, and existing volunteer networks. Conduct orientations and training sessions tailored to specific volunteer roles. Screen volunteers as needed (references, background checks, role suitability). Scheduling & Supervision Create and maintain a volunteer schedule that ensures coverage for all program activities. Coordinate daily volunteer assignments in collaboration with program leads. Act as the main point of contact for volunteers, providing on-site support, direction, and problem-solving as needed. Communication & Engagement Maintain ongoing communication with volunteers via email, phone, and in-person check-ins. Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. Recognize volunteer contributions and support volunteer satisfaction and retention. Program Support Meet together with other Campaign staff to ensure all aspects of the campaign are covered. Assist in logistics for Toy Centre setup, hamper distribution, and overall site organization. Track volunteer hours and provide a final report summarizing volunteer engagement and outcomes. Support overall Christmas Campaign operations as required. Work with other team leads to secure refreshments for volunteers during set up and distribution. Assist with registration when required. May pick up donations through campaign vehicle. Perform other position related duties as required. WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a Seasonal full time position based on 40 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required and schedule may vary from week to week. Ability to lift/move more than 10 lbs. (4.5kg). This job requires reaching, bending, stooping and, working in a standing position Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Completed High School or equivalent. Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements: Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset. Experience in office administration. Experience with general office equipment and must have strong skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL). Skills and Capabilities Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability. Ability to multi-task and work well in a fast-paced office setting; attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills. Self-motivated/disciplined.Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change. Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $20.64 with a maximum of $24.77. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
