Are you an experienced equipment operator looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity? The City of Edmonton is seeking a skilled and safety-minded Organics Tip Floor Equipment Operator to join our Waste Services team at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre (EWMC). In this role, you will play a crucial part in the screening, handling, and processing of organic waste materials, contributing to a sustainable and environmentally responsible City.
What will you do?
Receive green cart waste from collections vehicles tipping from an elevated tip apron
Use a wheel loader to stack and store green cart waste
Feed and operate a Komptech stationary waste pre-processing system (an integrated slow-speed shredder, magnet, and trommel screen system connected via various conveyor belts)
Load organic waste into a variety of trucks (40” end dumps, 53” walking floor trailers, etc.) using a wheel loader
Use small mobile equipment (a skidsteer and a mini-track loader) and elbow grease to assist with general housekeeping on the tip floor
Perform light maintenance, troubleshooting and cleaning for the pre-processing system and mobile equipment
In lower-volume periods of the year, support outdoor cure site operations
In the winter, clear snow from facility roads and parking lots
Attend and participate in safety meetings and advise of any health and safety concerns
Perform other related duties as required
Completion of Grade ten (10) or equivalent or higher
Two (2) years of experience in equipment operation with large wheel loaders and with stationary waste pre-processing equipment

Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions and prepare simple work records

Conditions of Employment:
Compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including being fit-tested for and wearing a N95 respirator and steel-toed boots is required for this position
A valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent), as well as obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Work Environment:
Ability to perform moderate manual labor in various weather and environmental conditions, including around all types of organic waste
The successful candidate must be capable and willing to work shift work. This may include mornings, afternoons & or nights. Rotating shifts may also be implemented as required
