The Role
Our Retail team is looking for an Area Manager (AM) for part of the Ontario region.
Reporting to the Regional Manager (East), the Area Manager leads a small group of stores. The AM will be responsible for the performance of the JD Sports stores in their area. Primarily judged on Sales, they will also deliver best in class store operations, team development, brand presentation, and customer experience.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Financials:
Achieve sales goals on the area as set on a monthly basis
Manage costs (payroll, supplies, travel) within agreed budgets
Customer Experience::
Ensure a frictionless experience in every customer interaction. Fully connected to our e-com operation
Develop a healthy selling culture where every guest feels welcome and heard
Operations:
Develop first class back of house (BOH) operations in all stores on the area
Ensure compliance in all areas of operational activity to protect the business from legal exposure and financial risk. i.e. Loss Prevention, Health & Safety, Cash Management
Constant focus on Operational Excellence to be driven throughout the area
Continuing focus on workforce management, scheduling the right people at the right times
Brand:
Close collaboration with Visual Merchandising team to ensure the highest standards are always maintained
Ensure products and collections are always presented to the highest standards, in a manner our vendors would be delighted to see
People and Talent Management:
Build, develop and coach a high performing group of store managers, that can hit their targets, develop their people and maintain operational excellence
Work with the Store Managers to develop strong leadership teams in every store with a high performance mindset, and potential successors for every key role
Personally practice and demand inclusive leadership to drive diversity and inclusion and improve our employer value proposition to attract talent to the group
Communication:
Ensure effective communication and be the key interface between the area and the wider business.
Share all appropriate messaging from leadership and home office with stores in a timely manner
Facilitate the communication of actionable insights from stores to corporate
Build strong and effective cross functional relationships within the wider organization, ensuring that the commercial and operations teams work in partnership with buying, merchandising, warehouse operations, marketing, multichannel, finance, property and human resources.
Analyze complex data, develop insights, and and ensure clear actions are taken as a result
Collate data across the area for presentation to Retail leadership
Other:
Support the execution of the property strategy for the area, including the opening and closing of stores.
Be open and available to travel as required across the Area
Skills/Experience/Knowledge needed:
2-3 years record of high performing store management experience
Ability to engage and develop trust with all levels, from PT associate to Regional Manager
Excellent communication skills with the proven ability to lead diverse teams to deliver great results
Passion for customer experience
Numerate, ability to read complex data and develop insights
