The Crime and Trauma-Informed Support Services Unit (CTSS) requires one (1) self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to apply trauma-informed principles while supporting victims of crime and trauma. Responsibilities of this position include:
Provide support and referral for victims of crime and other trauma.
Conduct client centered needs assessments, case conferences and provide ongoing client support as required from the time of referral until file resolution in court.
Work collaboratively with CTSS Volunteer Advocates to provide support to victims of crime and trauma.
Identify gaps in service and work with a diverse group of community members to develop and implement effective strategies to mitigate these gaps.
Work collaboratively with other EPS Units along with other CTSS Coordinators to ensure the community receives a high level of service.
Build and strengthen relationships to earn legitimacy and increased community awareness of the victim supports and resources available municipally, provincially, and federally.
Act as a liaison between CTSS, the EPS, community partners and other Law Enforcement Agencies.
Prepare statistical reports, drafts/update policy, report on program outputs and other related duties as required.
Develop and maintain strong stakeholder partnerships and identify appropriate community resources relevant to the client’s served.
Portfolio subject to change based on operational requirements: At the discretion of unit leadership and in concert with evolving organizational and community needs, specialized portfolios may be developed and assigned to the coordinator hired into this role. The successful candidate will initially be considered a generalist coordinator who will support a wide range of crime types and situations involving trauma.
University graduation in Social Sciences from a recognized university or a two (2) year diploma from a community college or technical institute in social services plus two (2) years related work experience in social services. Employees with a degree (BSW, MSW) or diploma in Social Work must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers.
Working knowledge of the Canadian Criminal Justice System, how it relates to victim services and a demonstrated understanding of the “victim experience” and the Victims Bill of Rights.
Experience providing trauma related supports, engaging, and collaborating with other community partners who provide front line support to those who have experienced trauma.
Experience providing client support immediately following a traumatic event and working in environments providing front-line support.
Ability to work independently with the ability to adapt quickly to change.
Experience in partnerships working with organizations who support a diverse population of people who have experienced trauma.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the various stages of grief and types of loss, as well as knowledge of intergenerational trauma.
Working knowledge of addiction and mental health would be considered an asset.
Demonstrated knowledge and Curriculum Design of Adult Learning Principles and Theories would be considered an asset.
Demonstrated understanding of trauma informed principles and how to apply them, along with GBA+ training with associated certificate.
A Certificate of Advocate Training from the Solicitor General and coordinator training would be considered an asset.
Completion of training in Trauma-Informed practice. Training in non-violent crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and conflict resolution is considered an asset.
Ability to work closely alongside investigators, maintain a high level of confidentiality concerning the release of sensitive investigative material and grasp of the appropriate levels of information release is considered an asset for both positions.
Demonstrated leadership, management, problem solving and conflict resolution skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with law enforcement while building effective relationships within the communities served.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta’s Driver’s license. Must complete a City Driver’s License application. Must also have access to own vehicle and provide written proof of current public liability and property damage insurance to a minimum of $1,000,000. EPS will reimburse mileage for any private vehicle usage during assigned duties. Client transport is not required.
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Monday to Friday. After-hours callout on a rotational schedule. (Weekend shifts may be required)
Salary Range: 21B, Salary Grade: 017, $33.31 - $41.84 (Hourly), $2,665.30 - $3,347.80 (Bi-Weekly), $69,563.81 - $87,376.54 (Annually).
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
