Cermaq Canada is currently seeking to fill the permanent, full-time role of Environmental Biology Technologist, based out of our Campbell River office. As the Environmental Biology Technologist, you report to the Fish Health Technical Support Manager. You would advance Cermaq Canada’s vision by providing leadership in saltwater biology including the environmental aspects to ensure a healthy production environment for our fish.

Job Accountabilities:
Advises and collaborates with the Fish Health Team on water quality related to environmental impact formally and informally on a regular basis that reflects accurate and current information including risk assessments.
Lead the implementation of environmental strategies to optimize fish health, quality, production efficiencies and welfare throughout the saltwater life cycle of the salmon.
Develop and implement environmental mitigation strategies for specific fish health challenges so that the risk to stock is reduced or eliminated.
Direct the monitoring program for harmful algae so that employees are providing meaningful data that can be accurately analysed.
Design, instruct and monitor the quality of the related training programs.
Provide information and interpretation of data for those who are consulting with rightsholders and stakeholders that speaks to the sustainability of the operations.
Direct the monitoring program for zooplankton, biofouling so that employees are providing meaningful data that can be accurately analysed.
Lead the development, implementation, and use of the environmental database so that there is continual improvement, accurate information, and reliable reporting.
Proactively communicate to Cermaq management critical environmental and biological information to ensure effective decision making that minimizes risk.
Responsible for Reporting in accordance with condition of licenses requirements and external partner commitments.
Education, experience, and skills:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Degree or Diploma in Aquaculture (required minimum), or,
Bachelor of Science with a preference for a Masters in Aquaculture or related field is preferred.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience with analysis of biological monitoring including field work is an asset.
Experience with research projects required.
Experience working in the saltwater salmon production (preferred)
Experience leading training workshops is required.
Project management of multiple projects at a time with software experience
Proven interpersonal and communications skills that promotes collaboration.

Hiring wage: $63,431.71/annum
