Position Summary: Reporting to the Associate Director (Online Programs Portfolio) and working as part of an instructional design team, the instructional designer collaborates with subject matter experts (SMEs) to design, develop and create online courses and learning experiences. This is a six-month term position with the possibility of renewal. Primary Responsibilities: Design and develop engaging, student-centered, and high-quality online learning experiences that promote active learning and align with best practices in online education. • Apply instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Backward Design) to create outcome-driven learning experiences. • Utilize various technologies (LMS, MS Office, multimedia, etc.) to develop course materials. • Ensure course design adheres to McGill’s course design policies, accessibility guidelines, and best practices in online pedagogy. • Coordinate with university cross-functional teams to ensure seamless course delivery. • Review and revise course materials to enhance their effectiveness for online delivery. • Develop assessment strategies in collaboration with SMEs ensuring alignment with McGill’s assessment policy. • Manage course design projects from conception to delivery, ensuring timely completion. • Contribute to program-level design to ensure consistency and continuity across courses. • Participate in quality assurance processes and implement established procedures. • Share insights and lessons learned with the design team regularly to improve practices. • Integrate and build course materials, assessments, and activities in the LMS. Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field. Minimum 3 years of experience in instructional design, preferably in higher education. • Proven expertise in instructional design theory and its application to online learning. • Knowledge of a variety of web-based instructional technologies. • Demonstrated ability to establish and manage work priorities and adhere to timelines. • Familiarity working with Learning Management Systems (Brightspace preferred). • Strong interpersonal skills.
