The Department of Psychiatry, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Department of Psychiatry at The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), are seeking a geriatric psychiatrist to provide psychiatric consultation and ongoing care to older adults over the age of fifty (50). The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant, Associate or full Professor at the University of Toronto. Effective start date is January 1, 2026.
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canada’s largest mental health teaching hospital and one of the world’s leading research centres in its field. CAMH, together with the Department of Psychiatry at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, has a strong tradition in the integration of clinical, teaching and research activities. The Division of Geriatric Psychiatry has a strong research portfolio and research, clinical and academic partnerships with other hospitals and academic institutions across Canada and internationally.
Duties include psychiatric consultation and follow up of outpatients and inpatients, teaching and supervision of medical students, psychiatry residents and geriatric psychiatry residents, and collaboration in research and other academic activities. Extensive prior experience with care of older adults with mental health conditions and their families and caregivers is required. Additional duties and opportunities include outreach work to transitional care, long term care, and/or other community settings, and consultation-liaison for geriatric inpatients admitted to general psychiatry units of the hospital and inpatient geriatric psychiatry units. Expertise in treating dementia and behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia, serious and complex mental health disorders (i.e. schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and substance use disorders), and common mental health including depression and anxiety disorders is preferred. Duties may also include care for the general adult population in on-call or covering arrangements for other units of the hospital.
The successful applicant must hold an MD degree, must be Board certified or Board Eligible in Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Psychiatry Specialty and Geriatric Psychiatry Specialty, and must be eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The position requires an individual who has additional training or equivalent experience as well as a record of excellence in scholarship. The successful candidate will have a strong record of relevant research accomplishment.
Remuneration is in accordance with the compensation of a psychiatrist in the province of Ontario. Estimated remuneration will be in the range of $300,000 - $350,000 per annum, commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience.
