Position Overview
Reporting to the Operations Manager (Goderich) and Corporate Fleet Manager, the Mechanic (Goderich) is responsible for overseeing and completing all mechanical servicing of the company’s commercial truck and trailer fleet, as directed by the Fleet Manager. This hands-on role requires deep technical expertise, the ability to prioritize repairs, and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance to ensure the ongoing mechanical safety and efficiency of the fleet.
Key Responsibilities
Perform and oversee regular and preventative maintenance on vehicles in accordance with established maintenance schedules.
Schedule and track all vehicle maintenance; maintain service records for each vehicle to ensure mechanical safety.
Prioritize and execute day-to-day vehicle repairs based on driver feedback and daily repair logs.
Supervise all shop activities, including coordinating workflow in the repair bay.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment in the shop and surrounding areas.
Work directly with vehicle manufacturers to ensure Da-Lee’s requirements and specifications are met.
Maintain deep working knowledge of Da-Lee’s spray systems and vehicle accessories and continuously develop this knowledge.
Manage shop inventory: source parts, track purchase orders, arrange pickups/deliveries, and benchmark pricing.
Collaborate closely with Dispatch and Customer Service to ensure service intervals do not interfere with delivery schedules.
Communicate with external stakeholders such as suppliers, MTO representatives, and vehicle manufacturers (including warranty and product support issues).
Perform other duties as assigned to support fleet operations.
Qualifications
Education / Knowledge / Experience
310T Licensed Mechanic
Degree or diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s license (AZ license considered an asset)
Fleet and Shop Manager certification (asset)
Lift Truck Operator Training (asset)
Minimum five (5) years of hands-on experience in truck and trailer maintenance including:
o Chassis and suspension
o Diesel engine service and overhauls
o Driveline and transmission systems
o Air brakes and hydraulic systems
o Electrical diagnostics and repairs
Skills and Abilities
Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Problem-solving and supervisory capabilities
Skilled in using tools and diagnostic equipment
Basic computer proficiency (Outlook, internet)
Strong negotiation and organizational skills

Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory
Exposure to noisy environments and shop-related hazards (waste oil, solvents, welding UV rays, fumes)

Work at heights and use of ladders as needed
Work Environment
Work is primarily conducted in the shop for major repairs, with some outdoor work in the yard for day-to-day vehicle needs
Standard hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM (may vary based on seasonal or operational needs)
Overtime and weekend work may be required during peak periods (April to October)
