Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, the Tax Assistant is an integral part of the Company’s Finance Department. Assisting the Corporate Controller, the Tax Assistant’s main focus includes analyzing Canadian sales tax, and US sales and use tax.

Responsibilities:
Coordinate with team members to successfully deliver value in tax services
Maintain best practices in Canadian corporate tax including PST, HST, QST, and US sales and use tax
Ensure up to date compliance with US and Canadian tax laws and regulations
Conduct research on Canadian and US sales and use tax
Ensure accurate filing on Canadian and US sales and use tax
Provide assistance and accuracy during tax audits, and respond to notices from tax authorities
Maintain comprehensive tax records and financial data for company use and audits
Gather and organize Canadian and US tax information, including financial statements, income records, and expense documentation
Utilize company tax software effectively
Other ad hoc duties as required
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in relevant subject, e.g. accounting, finance, economics, taxation
Work experience in taxation role, including co-op experience considered a plus
Competency with MS Office including a strong command of Excel functions
Ability to apply an understanding of financial statements and other relevant non-tax financial and business information to the tax advisory and compliance work
Ability to work autonomously and commitment to delivering an excellent product
Strong organizational, time management skills and effective communication skills
Ability to work and perform under pressure with tight deadlines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
