Supervisor, Accounting (Non-Union)
(Temporary contract – 14 months)

Are you an experienced accounting professional with a knack for leadership and process improvement? As the Supervisor of Accounting, you will ensure that all general accounting functions are carried out in compliance with legislative guidelines and internal policies. You will oversee accounting functions, drive process enhancements, and develop policies and procedures to meet departmental objectives. Additionally, you will provide valuable financial recommendations to the Senior Management team.
What you’ll do
Accounting Operations:
Oversee all activities of the Accounting team, including processing adjusting entries to the general ledger and performing account reconciliations and analyses for bank, fixed assets, inventory, miscellaneous accounts receivable, and other balance sheet accounts.
Supervise the timely and accurate completion of costing activities, including work order closures, capital contribution transactions, customer invoicing, and refunds.
Manage month-end processes, including accruals, provisions, related party transactions, lease, and debt accounting.
Compliance and Policy Development:
Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, OEB guidelines, IFRS, federal and provincial filings, and internal policies and procedures.
Research, recommend, and develop accounting policies and procedures to enhance departmental operations.
Process Improvement and Internal Controls:
Initiate and implement process and system changes to enhance productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness.
Maintain sound internal control practices and procedures within the functional areas.
Team Leadership:
Plan, organize, and supervise the daily activities of accounting staff.
Provide leadership, coaching, development, and performance management to the team, offering technical guidance and advice.
Contribute to setting department goals and objectives.
Strategic Initiatives:
Lead and/or participate in projects and key initiatives to ensure quality and timely completion within budget.
Ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and Health & Safety policies, procedures, and standards.

Who you are
Education & Technical Knowledge
Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting
CMA/CGA/CA/CPA designation
Strong technical accounting knowledge, including thorough knowledge of IFRS
Knowledge of and experience in regulated statutory reporting
Knowledge of relevant tax requirements, including HST and taxable benefits, laws, regulations and guidelines
Extensive working knowledge of Tier I ERP systems and other related reporting systems
Knowledge of the energy and utility industries, including an above-average understanding of the regulatory environment and a fundamental knowledge of electrical distribution systems
Proficiency in documenting and interpreting policies and procedures
Proficiency with MS Office applications, including a high level of competence in Excel
Experience
Minimum of 5 years related experience, including supervision of staff
Experience in a senior accounting and financial capacity
Experience in developing and recommending corporate procedures, managing budgets and providing input to strategic/business plans
Experience in a unionized utility environment is an asset

Ability to interpret financial results and communicate to both financial and non-financial management and staff
Service-orientation and high degree of client focus with the ability to ensure cooperation from others while maintaining professional and respectful relationships at various levels of the organization
Strong ability to lead change and engage, develop and motivate teams
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to provide practical and/or innovative solutions
Strong written and presentation skills, with the ability to convey information accurately and concisely
Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines
Must hold and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license
