Job Description: Accountabilities: Client/Program Support Consistently demonstrates empathy and concern for clients/families Provides emergency food hampers to clients as directed by supervisor Assists in the organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the Food Bank and/or Meal Centre, etc. Receives (and/or declines) and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations or purchased products following standard procedures May be responsible for ensuring safe handling of hazardous materials Arranges for discarding of items that are not usable in accordance with policy May direct work of volunteers assisting in the Food Bank Records incoming/outgoing donations in proper logs May assist in the maintenance of client files and statistical records, as directed Ensures the general upkeep of the facility, such as cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage, vacuums, checks, cleans, moves, arranges and dusts furniture as required Restocks washroom supplies and distributes received materials as required. Assist with driving food van for donation pickups and deliveries. Ensures the safe and careful handling of all deliveries, donations, kettle & other funds while protecting property, including donations & vehicles. Performs other duties as assigned Administrative Responsibilities Records incoming/outgoing donations in proper logs May assist in the maintenance of client files and statistical records, as directed Written and Verbal Communication CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT Will primarily communicate with The Salvation Army staff, volunteers and donors Governance Boards and Councils: None Internal: N/A External: N/A MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY: Reports directly to: Community and Family Services Supervisor Direct reports for this position: N/A FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT: The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. WORKING CONDITIONS: A typical working environment is in a community ministries office, at a food bank and/or a warehouse. The performance of the job requires a frequent amount of loading/unloading trucks, handing out hampers, receiving/sorting out donated or purchased goods, and occasional computer work An incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions: Dirt/Dust/Temperature variations in a warehouse environment Cramped working station Work-related stress Dealing with angry and abusive people May have little to no travel requirements The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct. Education and Experience Qualifications: Education, Qualifications and Certifications: • The successful job applicant will have completed Public School Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements Up to three (3) months of prior related experience; including, experience working with multi-barriered persons. WHMIS training Food Safe training Universal Precautions Skills and Capabilities: Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills Attentive listening, empathy to clients/volunteers Attention to occasional computer work Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $21.71 to $22.09 with a maximum of $22.46. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
