Position Overview
As our new Portfolio Analyst, you’ll be at the heart of our investment work — helping high-potential climate tech projects succeed. Reporting to the Portfolio Manager, you’ll monitor and evaluate a growing portfolio of non-dilutive investments, ensuring projects meet milestones and maximize impact.
You’ll serve as the connective tissue between NorthX
and our portfolio companies — supporting investment analysis and tracking portfolio agreements to ensure outcomes are achieved and obligations are met. Through ongoing engagement, you’ll identify investment opportunities, surface insights, and provide the support portfolio companies need to overcome challenges and scale their innovations faster.

Key Responsibilities
Manage project reporting for a diverse portfolio of climate hard-tech projects, creating jobs and advancing Canada’s climate leadership.
Track, evaluate, and forecast project outcomes – turning reported data into actionable insights for the NorthX team.
Analyzing investment opportunities and producing concise reports to present to the investment team.
Organize and oversee all portfolio contracts, ensuring obligations are met and opportunities are captured to help our companies commercialize and scale.
Engage directly with companies, supporting their growth journey, and supporting them on their way to achieve scale and success.
Provide analytical horsepower to the NorthX team – from key climate insights and market trend analysis to guide where NorthX allocates its investment dollars.
Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and partners to align portfolio activities with NorthX’s broader strategic and funding objectives.
Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying process enhancements, tools, and metrics that strengthen portfolio management and reporting.
Core Competencies and Qualifications
A minimum of 3 years of experience relevant to the outlined “Key Responsibilities” section of this job posting. Relevant education may also be considered in lieu of equivalent experience.
A degree in Business, Finance, Climate Studies, Engineering, Environmental Science, Entrepreneurship or a related field.
Strong interpersonal skills to engage both internally and externally to achieve outcomes.
Proven organizational and communication skills to manage multiple projects across the NorthX portfolio.
Ability to work independently and with a team to achieve results and outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to track and summarize information that will relate to actionable outcomes by the team.
Strong ability with Microsoft Excel and other Office suite tools.
Knowledge and understanding of climate change issues.
Existing experience in investment analysis of start-ups
Experience with commercial agreements would be an asset.
Operational experience with climate tech startups is considered an asset.
Comfortability and knowledgeable in engaging with AI tools and supporting the build-out of AI tools to optimize operational efficiency.
