Position: EDC New Grad Position – Economic & Political Intelligence Centre
Employment Type: Contract
Compensation Details:
Student, New Grad & Master’s salaries range from $42,900 to $56,550 annually, based on year of study. Please see the salary breakdown by year of study below:
1st Year: $42,900 ($22.00/hour)
2nd Year: $44,850 ($23.00/hour)
3rd Year: $46,800 ($24.00/hour)
4th Year and Beyond: $48,750 ($25.00/hour)
New Graduate (Undergraduate): $54,600 ($28.00/hour)
Master’s/PhD: $56,550 ($29.00/hour)
Location:
Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change).
This role will be performed from EDC’s community hub in Toronto.

Overview
The Economic and Political Intelligence Centre (EPIC) is looking for a research assistant to join our team of economists, researchers and quantitative analysts. The EPIC research team's role is to provide reliable, relevant and timely analysis on forward-looking issues for EDC executives. We do this by:
Analyzing publicly available datasets to provide short research pieces capturing the evolution of Canadian and global trade;
Authoring deeper think pieces focused on themes relevant to EDC's strategy, including market diversification, growing sectoral exports, and augmenting Canada's productive trade capacity;
What you will be doing:
Note: This position reports directly to the Manager of Economic Research & Impact
Ad hoc and rapid-response analysis to support the Research team
Conduct literature review on various topics, assist senior economists and managers on ongoing research projects
Find, clean, merge and visualize data from various sources (Statistics Canada, UNCOMTRADE & other international statistical sources)
Prepare presentations, slide decks and dashboards
Individually contribute research and analysis
What we are looking for:
Currently enrolled or recently completed a degree in Economics, International Affairs, Political Science, Business Administration or Finance
Knowledge of basic economic principles and statistical methods
Strong data analysis skills
Strong communication skills with an ability to write in clear, accessible manner
Strong ability to work with Excel, PowerPoint, statistical packages, economic databases and research resources
Self starter attitude, with a keen interest in leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) to perform relevant tasks
Ability to manage time and work on multiple concurrent projects
What will make you stand out:
Other data visualization & analysis skills such as the ability to clean and code data is an asset (Python, STATA, PowerBI, R, Tableau)
Bilingual in both official languages (French and English).
