We are more than an emergency shelter.
Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that everyone who walks through our doors feels welcomed, respected, and valued. All of our programs, including emergency shelter, are low-barrier, trauma-informed, housing-focused, and recovery-oriented, aimed at supporting Calgary’s most vulnerable citizens. And our doors are always open.

Donation Centre
Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Free Goods Program, the Free Goods Program Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of the warehouse and fleet. Day-to-day operations of the warehouse require the coordinator to determine and delegate staff tasks and projects as well as oversight of the volunteer, compelled hours and practicum programs. You will establish strong relationships with all existing and new partners and visitors to the Donation Centre. And effectively steward all Donation Centre visitors. Ongoing evaluation for continuous improvement and demonstrated impact is a key to success.
You will collaborate agency wide to develop and enforce OH&S standards to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all stakeholders. You will ensure that all required data is tracked and verified. Steel toe boots and being on DI driving insurance are a requirement; you must be able to lift donations of up to 50lbs.
Time Commitment
Not less than 40 hours per rotation; with 5 days on and 2 days off. Some unusual hours may be required from time to time as the need arises. These hours may be altered at the discretion of management.
Job Duties
Uphold the vision, mission, goals, values and ethics of the DI
Foster a culture of engagement throughout the Donation Centre and the Drop-In Centre, so that everyone recognizes the importance of stewarding positive relationships and problem-solving for the best possible, mutually beneficial outcomes
Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the warehouse and fleet, delegating tasks and projects to staff, volunteers, compelled hour volunteers and practicum students
Develop and implement standard operating procedures, inventory management best practices and building logistics
Ensuring that the staff have the tools and training to complete daily tasks and projects.
The Free Goods Program drivers will directly report to the Coordinator.
Oversee volunteer and compelled-hours program, and the delegated tasks
Compiling and collecting accurate data within DI reporting systems.
Coordinate the logistics of Free Goods Program vehicles, and the flow of goods in and out of the Donation Centre
Provide exceptional customer service, donor relations and stewardship; being the main point of contact for established partners.
Ensure the Donation Centre and fleet meet and maintains all Occupational Health & Safety standards and guidelines
Lead daily warehouse meetings and monthly toolbox talks
Work with the Chief Impact Officer and Manager, Free Goods Program to ensure policies and procedures for the Donation Centre and the Free Goods Program are in place and up to date.

Qualifications and Essential Skills
Completion of a college or university program (bachelor’s degree or diploma) is considered an asset
Previous work experience in a social service environment or similar role would be an asset, knowledge of issues affecting vulnerable individuals is a strong asset
A combination of education/practical experience may be considered
Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check – dated within the last 6 months. Copy required.
Valid class 5 driver’s license and clean abstract is mandatory and must meet the conditions of the Agency’s automobile policy
Proficient in driving larger vehicles, 1-3-ton trucks
Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written. Being able to positively engage with external and internal stakeholders.
Proficient use of computers, Microsoft Office and any other database software(s) used to track service delivery; proficient in Office365 and Microsoft Office Suite 2016
Energetic and self-directed, with effective time management and organizational skills including the ability to deal with several priorities at the same time
Strong strategically focused analytical skills, good common sense, and capacity to provide leadership
Well-developed interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiating skills
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to improve projects, programs and processes
Collaborative team player who works well in a dynamic, multi-tasking team environment
Energetic and self-directed with effective time management and organizational skills, including the ability to deal with competing priorities at the same time and working under tight deadlines

Working Conditions
The individuals we serve are experiencing homelessness or precarious housing and may also be facing substance use disorders and/or mental or physical health challenges. Many have a history of significant trauma.These experiences can influence their interactions with both staff and one another. By recognizing these behaviors as responses to past experiences, we are able to engage with our guests in a manner that is empathetic and respectful.
This role may involve high-stress situations that require resilience, compassion, and composure. Although the DI is a smoke-free work environment, there may be occasional exposure to secondhand smoke from designated smoking areas nearby.
