About the role Job Summary: The Unit Manager (UM) is responsible for leading and managing a team of Surety Underwriting Assistants to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness. This role involves overseeing the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, managing team performance, and fostering a collaborative environment to optimize processes and meet business objectives. Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Team Management Provide leadership, processing guidance and oversight to the Surety Underwriting Assistants (UA) team, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic objectives. Mentor, coach, and develop team members, fostering professional growth and skill development. Manage team performance by conducting performance reviews and career developing discussions. Act as a primary point of contact for all Surety related inquiries and issues, resolving conflicts, and fostering a positive work environment. Process and Efficiency Improvement Lead the assessment and continuous improvement of operational workflows to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Develop and implement strategic initiatives aimed at optimizing underwriting processes and improving service delivery. Collaborate with senior management to develop and enforce guidelines, protocols, and compliance standards across the team. Strategic Planning and Project Management Contribute to strategic planning sessions and collaborate with senior management to set team goals and key performance indicators Manage and oversee key projects, particularly those related to Surety IT initiatives, ensuring timely execution and successful outcomes. Analyze performance data and metrics to make informed decisions and recommendations for process improvements. Facilitate open communication channels within the team and across departments to ensure cohesive operations. Manage key relationships with our critical partners such as Underwriting Serve as a liaison between the Surety team and other departments, such as underwriting to streamline processes and enhance collaboration. Represent the Surety team's interests in meetings with management, brokers, and other stakeholders. Qualifications: University degree or college diploma in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of experience in a management or supervisory role within the insurance or financial industry. Surety experience would be considered an asset Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in presenting to and engaging with various audiences. Demonstrated problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and autonomous decision making. Experience with process improvement methodologies and tools. Bilingual (French and English) is an important asset. Proficiency in using various technology platforms and tools relevant to the Surety business.
