As a Property Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining accurate financial records for our diverse portfolio of commercial and residential properties. You will work closely with the Asset Management team to assist with the day-to-day accounting and periodic reporting. Third Space Properties is currently evaluating and implementing systems to support growth in our residential portfolio. Your attention to detail, results-oriented mindset, ability to adapt to changing environments as well as strong proficiency in MS Office Applications and Yardi software will be critical in succeeding in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Handles full cycle accounting for the assigned portfolio including day-to-day financial transactions, recording journal entries, maintaining amortization schedules, calculating and reconciling trial balances, managing accruals, and generating and posting Rent Rolls.
Prepares Monthly financial reports and performs budget comparison variance analysis.
Reviews AR accounts, assists with account reconciliation as needed, and provides support to the operations team in AR collection efforts.
Manages the accounting aspect of budgeting, including re-forecasting, variance analysis, and revenue modeling.
Ensures timely and accurate processing of year-end adjustments and billing.
Reviews and approves leases, ensures the lease set-up aligns with lease language for items, such as rental charges, security deposits, lease obligations (TI/LLW), and accurate interpretation of other relevant clauses.
Process residential lease move-in and move out procedures in Yardi.
Works closely with the asset management team
to assist with day-to-day activities, financial reporting, and budgeting/forecasting.
Prepares and reviews GST for monthly, quarterly, and yearly filing.
Ensures compliance with accounting policies and procedures and manages financial systems and processes.
Qualifications and Knowledge:
Diploma or degree in accounting or equivalent experience.
1 - 2 years of experience in a property accounting role.
Strong organizational, technical, and communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including a proven ability to build relationships.
High level of attention to detail and dedication to quality.
Must have strong proficiency in MS Office Applications, including MS Excel.
Yardi Voyager 7S experience is an asset.
Experience with residential and/or mixed used property accounting is preferred.

Salary Range:
The Property Accountant salary range is $65,000 - $75,000 with an annual performance bonus. This role is eligible for health & dental benefits.
The exact compensation offered will be dependent upon education & training, years of relevant experience, and internal equity.
