As an Engineering Tech Lead, you will spearhead the development of advanced AI-driven features, shaping the future of browser-based products. You will lead a talented team of engineers, translating complex product goals into elegant technical solutions while driving high-quality implementation of LLM-powered features. This role combines strategic vision with hands-on execution, allowing you to influence architecture, technical direction, and AI product design. You will collaborate closely with product teams to enhance AI performance, experiment with cutting-edge models, and implement innovative memory and agentic capabilities. The position offers full autonomy in a remote-first environment, fostering creativity, rapid iteration, and a user-focused approach. You will mentor engineers, promote best practices, and ensure that every feature delivered maximizes user impact and business value.
Accountabilities:
- Lead the design, development, and execution of LLM-powered AI features, ensuring alignment with product goals and user impact.
- Define and evolve technical architecture, system design, and engineering standards for scalable AI products.
- Mentor and support a team of product and machine learning engineers, fostering technical growth and a product mindset.
- Build and refine AI quality systems and evaluation processes to enhance model performance and reliability.
- Integrate and experiment with the latest AI models, fine-tuning for real-world use cases while balancing speed, quality, and scale.
- Drive process improvements across engineering practices, focusing on performance, maintainability, and efficient delivery.
- Ensure high-quality, interaction-rich user experiences, paying attention to detail and technical craftsmanship.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience building and leading high-quality software products, including experience with user-facing applications or AI features from 0-1.
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, understanding their capabilities, limitations, and integration into products.
- Strong track record of coaching, mentoring, and guiding engineers.
- Experience tackling ambiguous problems and leading complex technical projects with measurable business impact.
- Pragmatic, product-minded, and comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment with rapid validation cycles.
- Ability to collaborate across teams in North American time zones, with 4+ hours overlap with Eastern Time.
- Strong communication skills, strategic thinking, and alignment with company values to scale the team effectively.
