Job Description and Responsibilities At Interpro Pipe & Steel, the Process Specialist will provide process technical support to Red Deer Quality Manager and operations in areas involving quality and inspection planning associated with production orders. The Process Specialist is responsible for monitoring, inspecting, and proposing measures to correct or improve company’s final products and processes to meet established quality standards and is responsible for ensuring that customer expectations are translated to production order requirements, inspection and test plans are reflective of customer and industry requirements and that the operations team understands our resulting product performance KPI’s (first pass yield, rework rate, downgrade rate, etc.). The Process Specialist is responsible for identifying opportunities for innovation and recommending improvements to pipe mill processes, heat treatment, threading and finishing so that the product quality and performance are improved, and identifies process control and product performance issues, recommends solutions, and participates in improvement projects by utilizing statistical tools and data driven solutions. Analyze process KPI’s and Trends vs conformance to process standards Develop improvement opportunities and support mill process improvement activities Short term (within a few days) process troubleshooting Facilitate process improvement plans for top defects Coordinate implementation of QA CAPEX projects - participate in identification, selection, installation and commissioning of new equipment Ensure safe work conditions for self and others Supervise lab vice foreman and gauge room coordinator Lab Support - provide performance feedback, counseling, coaching, and training to the team Gauge Room Support – ensure repair and calibration of MTE as per applicable standards Manage QA team and coordinate QA activities in absence of QA Manager Product release - review lab results and ensure specification compliance of pipes to be released Manufacturing Order activation and CIP Micro Schedule setup Oversight of supplier claims – determine validity of quality issues, investigate the root cause of non-conforming material, and recommend potential resolution Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical, Mechanical or Materials Science Engineering preferred Desirable 3-5 years’ experience in metallurgy, pipe forming, welding, heat treating or threading Demonstrated experience using MS office tools and Minitab (or equivalent statistical analysis software) to analyze numerical data and draw conclusions Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent oral and written communication skills Knowledge of API 5L, 5CT, CSA Z245.1 specifications an asset. Familiar with ISO Quality standards and Quality Management System Cooperative and effective team member, able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization Knowledge of steel mill processes and operations preferred Our total compensation package includes amazing benefits!
