About the role: Reporting to the Director, Support Services, this role plays a pivotal part in advancing risk management and patient safety across the organization. The Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining Southlake’s Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Plan, ensuring readiness to respond to high-risk situations and emergencies, and leading recovery efforts when required. Key responsibilities include coordinating education, training, and organizational activities to foster a culture of safety and preparedness, while ensuring compliance with Accreditation Canada standards and best practices. As an experienced change agent, the Manager will collaborate with leaders, staff, and external partners to identify and mitigate risk, strengthen organizational resilience, and lead emergency preparedness priorities in support of Accreditation. What you bring: • University degree in Disaster and Emergency Management or a directly related field (required). • Lean Certification (preferred). • 3–5 years of experience in emergency preparedness management, ideally in a healthcare setting. • Strong knowledge of hospital emergency response codes (preferred). • Working knowledge of the Incident Management System (IMS) for emergency preparedness. • Proven ability to plan, organize, and analyze with strong attention to detail and deadlines. • Project management experience considered an asset. • Demonstrated strength in leadership, judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making. • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio. • Collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively across disciplines. • Flexible, self-directed, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. • Skilled in coaching, facilitation, diplomacy, and team building. • Committed to continuous professional development. • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage change effectively. What you'll be doing: • Develops, supports, coordinates and monitors the implementation and ongoing functioning of an Emergency and Disaster Preparedness Plan, education, training, and associated activities across the organization. • Leads Emergency Preparedness priority process for Accreditation. • Facilitates development and evaluation of corporate-wide emergency preparedness education and training using multiple modalities (e.g. Simulations, tabletop exercises, etc.) • Plays a pivotal role in Risk Management by ensuring effective planning and preparedness for identifying potential risks, high-risk situations, and the coordination of response and recovery to emergencies and the promotion of safety across the organization. • Coordinates and conducts education and training related to Emergency and Disaster Preparedness. • Maintains records/database of EP education and training; tracks corporate compliance with mandatory Emergency Preparedness training and provides reports for leaders as required. • Supports, coordinates and monitors the implementation and ongoing functioning of the Hazard Identification Risk Assessment (HIRA) for the hospital. • Coordinates annual plan for each Emergency Code. • Provides guidance and advice to teams on planning and conducting emergency response code. exercises (e.g., tabletop, mock drills) and staff on access to policies. • Acts as the Co-chair for the hospital's Emergency and Disaster Preparedness Committee. • Provides support for the hospital's Code White and Workplace Violence Prevention Committees. • Works closely with individuals in related roles (e.g., Security, Town of Newmarket, Emergency Measures Ontario, And York Region) to ensure alignment with all Emergency and Disaster Preparedness activities, response plans and training where appropriate. • Develops processes to track and maintain Emergency and Disaster Preparedness Manuals and related materials throughout the organization. • Conducts regular audits of all existing hospital policies and procedures to ensure that all documents are current and relevant according to specific department, discipline, and program or service. • Works collaboratively with all policy leads to ensure adherence to the development and approval process prior to circulation to the various committees. • Other related Emergency and Disaster Preparedness activities as required.
