What you will be doing:
- Focus on project work, debugging performance degradations, audits, and health
checks.
- Design and help implement new MongoDB and Cassandra deployments.
- Evaluate existing clusters and provide recommendations on best practices.
- Debug high priority issues on mission critical production environments.
- Engage with the Mongo DB and Cassandra community through user lists, irc,
blog posts, webinars, and open source projects.
- Contribute to rapid brainstorming, designing and developing of prototypes.
- Automate and provide documentation on operational procedures.
- Train and mentor junior team members.
- Provide performance and forecast reports on the health and load of critical
business processes to help ensure the infrastructure has adequate capacity.
- Participate in company, and team meetings.
- Continued education in Pythian’s Operations as a Service supported stack.
- Provide on-call support in your team’s on-call rotational schedule.
What we need from you:
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical
experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience with MongoDB databases is required for
this position.
- Experience with Cassandra database is an asset.
- Experience with NoSQL databases such as Solr, Scylla, CockroachDB is an
asset.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Shell, Java, Go, C#,
C++, Ruby, Python, Ansible), with Shell and Python being preferred.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Experience with web applications, distributed systems and databases.
- Familiarity with multiple orchestration and configuration management systems.
- Understanding of continuous integration and automation practices.
- Knowledge of multiple monitoring, alerting and metric collection systems.
- An understanding of current IT service standards, such as ITIL.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- A self-motivated and directed approach to working in a demanding, fast-paced
environment.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong active listening skills.
- Robust analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Highly effective multitasking and organizational skills.
