As a member of the Municipal Enforcement team, you will work both with a team and independently conducting parking enforcement and community engagement. You will be offering assistance in using our parking system and providing insight as to how the paid parking program benefits our community.
Position Overview: The Municipal Enforcement Officer serves the community of Canmore, residents and visitors, through highly visible educational and enforcement activities with an emphasis on parking. Reporting to the Supervisor of Municipal Enforcement and as a member of the Municipal Enforcement team, the Municipal Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing parking regulations related to paid parking and residential permit parking by issuing warnings and tickets for parking violations, conducting minor maintenance of pay machines, administering unpaid parking violations and responding to parking complaints in the downtown area. This role assists residents, business and visitors by providing information, wayfinding, and assistance in the use of parking equipment and technology. Municipal Enforcement Officers are highly visible in the community and act as both enforcement officers and ambassadors for the town while conducting lengthy foot patrols (20,000+ steps per shift) throughout the year in various inclement weather conditions. This position helps advance a safe multi-model shift in the community while providing a high level of service to residents, businesses and visitors.

You are a personable, patient, and independent worker that possess the physical ability and keen interest to conduct multi-hour foot and bike patrols while balancing this with administrative duties. The successful candidate must be able to walk an average of 10km/day, 50km/week; provide an acceptable driving record; and a clear criminal record check.
Core Accountabilities:
Acts as an ambassador of the Town of Canmore (“Town”) by conducting community outreach & education pertaining to paid parking and municipal parking bylaws in the Town
Knows Canmore parking zones, common street names, important landmarks, and locations
Is familiar with Town bylaws and specifically knowledgeable with bylaws related to parking
Has a working knowledge of department related Provincial laws
Prepares for and attends court as required
Enforces other municipal bylaws as directed by the Supervisor of Municipal Enforcement
Participates in team meetings for overall team success
Collaborates and communicates to understand and meet client needs and expectations
Works in collaboration with other Town departments
Identifies and reports bylaw infractions and safety concerns to Community Peace Officers
Willingly takes on a variety of duties as assigned, which may not be part of the regular day-to-day expectations
Education & Qualifications:
Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License – required
High School Diploma or equivalent – required
Formal training in Conflict Resolution (e.g., Verbal Judo or Customer Service & De-Escalation) – asset
Experience:
Physically able to conduct long duration foot patrols in a variety of weather conditions – required
Excellent customer service, organizational, and time management skills – required
Experience managing conflict, proven Negotiation/Mediation skills – required
Basic skills with MS office and database entry – required
Ability to interpret legislation and municipal bylaws – required
Advanced communication skills – required
Previous experience with obtaining compliance in an enforcement or safety role such as lifeguard, security, or parking compliance/enforcement – asset
Salary & Benefits:
Pay Range: $37.26 - $41.65 per hour
Full-Time Temporary position for 15 months

Working Schedule: 7 days a week from 8 am to 8 pm, including weekends and holidays. It will be expected that the successful candidate will work all statutory holidays during the term of their contract. This role is 40 hours/week, 8 hours/day, on a 5-days on, 2 days off rotation.
