ACCOUNTABLE TO: Senior General Counsel/Head Legal Officer
Brief Overview:
Under the direction of the Senior General Counsel and Head Legal Officer, the Legal Administrative Support will provide essential clerical and administrative assistance to the legal team within the Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S). This role plays a vital part in supporting the legal department’s daily operations by managing schedules, organizing files, preparing documents, and facilitating communication between MN–S departments and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of handling confidential information with professionalism and discretion, contributing to the effective delivery of legal services that support the MN–S’s governance and strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Report to the MN−S Senior General Counsel and Head Legal Officer.
- Support specific strategic priorities of the MN−S.
- Prepare, draft, and manage documentation including diplomatic, industry and intergovernmental correspondents.
- Prepare and format basic legal documents and correspondence.
- Assist General Counsel with all matters, including reviewing documentation, research and preparing for meetings.
- Manage calendars for legal staff
- Liaison between Government Legal Services (GLS) and Ministerial Portfolios including but not limited to Self-Determination and Self-Government, Justice and Lands Resources, Agriculture, and Environment.
- Track and update task lists and deadlines.
- Assist with document scanning, copying, and distribution.
- Order and maintain office supplies and equipment.
- Respond to routine inquiries and direct calls appropriately.
- Support meeting preparation by organizing agendas and taking notes.
- Perform general office duties such as data entry, filing, and mail handling.
- Assist with basic document management software and databases.
- Provide administrative support for internal and external communications.
- Support MN−S departments and MN−S branches of government including locals, regions, Provincial Métis Counsel and the Métis Nation Legislative Assembly directly to obtain information and answer queries.
- Maintain collaborative working relationships with stakeholders within and outside the Métis government to advance strategic objectives.
- Ensure accuracy, confidentiality and safekeeping of information and records at all times.
- Maintain and update legal databases, manuals, and periodicals.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Previous experience in an administrative or office support role preferred.
- Familiarity with legal office procedures would be beneficial but not required.
- Completion of an administrative assistant or office management program is an asset.
Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge and understanding of Métis culture, history, citizens, and communities will be an asset.

Advanced computer skills, including knowledge of Adobe and Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

Knowledge of terminology, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling used in the legal field would be beneficial but not required.
Additional Requirements:
- Must provide an acceptable Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check prior to starting employment.
- Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and reliable transportation.
