Job Description
We are currently seeking a qualified Project Engineer to join our team, based out of Saskatoon SK. The Project Engineer will be responsible responsible for providing project engineering support to an assigned project, managing projects through various life cycle phases from early development of concepts through commissioning and follow-up/troubleshooting. The Project Engineer will prepare work scopes, budgets, schedules, and resource allocation plans for multi-disciple resources, incorporating best practices in safety, cost control, risk analysis, and schedule stewardship to ensure the safe and timely completion of projects within budget requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate technical deliverables across all project phases: design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and turnover.
Define and manage engineering scope, ensuring quality assurance and control.
Lead and oversee drafting, design, and engineering teams.
Gather technical requirements from Operations and Maintenance stakeholders.
Support business case evaluations with technical input.
Manage engineering and design-related RFIs and stage gate processes.
Collaborate with Procurement, Project Management, Maintenance, and Production teams.
Ensure clear communication of engineering expectations and resolve design roadblocks.
Provide timely project engineering updates and reporting.
Manage engineering change control, including scope, schedule, and budget impacts.
Track and validate proposed changes, supporting technical justifications.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Drive efficient, fit-for-purpose, cost-effective design solutions.
Coordinate work with consultants, design partners, and contractors.
Schedule and complete technical reviews to maintain quality and timelines.
Lead design through all phases to final turnover to operations.
Deliver wellfield and sustaining capital projects within approved scope, budget, and schedule.
Integrate safety, constructability, and risk management into project execution.
Resolve design issues through coordination with internal teams, consultants, and vendors.
Manage technical schedules and ensure alignment with project goals.
Support project management activities including scope development, tendering, and cost tracking.
Maintain documentation of technical decisions for traceability.
Oversee construction schedules, commissioning packages, and operational handover.
Collaborate across teams to manage change impacts and improve project efficiency.
Promote and uphold high safety standards for self and team.
Qualifications
University bachelor’s degree. Program or area of specialization – Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
Eligibility for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS)
Professional Engineering (P. Eng.) Designation.
5+ years technical experience in a mining/heavy industrial process setting preferred.
Demonstrated experience in Engineering environments and working with EPCMs and consultants.
Proven track record in managing engineering components of capital projects.
Experience in FEED projects is an advantage.
Excellent communication and organization skills, ability to diligently follow-up on tasks and hold people accountable.
Proficiency in fostering business-focused collaboration, aligning cross-functional teams and driving projects to successful completion.
Proficient in modern office software and knowledge of technical, budgeting, and analytical software preferred.
Ability to analytically solve problems with a creative approach and communicate outcomes across groups.
