About the Role:
Are you someone who is currently working towards obtaining your Automotive Service Technician or Heavy Equipment Technician Journeyperson certificate? Then this opportunity is for you! At ATCO Electric, you'll dive into a world of hands-on experience, working alongside seasoned professionals as you work towards becoming a journeyperson.
Under the guidance of the Lead Equipment Mechanic or designate, you will perform duties required in the maintenance, repair, and upfitting of company vehicles and equipment, including hydraulic systems. You will have the opportunity to work with various work groups and departments as required, to obtain the necessary experience and skills to achieve journeyperson status.

What You Get to Do:
Operating fleet vehicles and equipment in accordance with company requirements.
Working around heavy equipment including but not limited to trucks, hydraulic equipment, tracked vehicles, and trailers.
Ability to operate tools and equipment, including those that cause vibration.
Under supervision, assist in the maintenance and repair of company vehicles and equipment.
Support the use of diagnostic equipment and troubleshooting of electronic control systems.
Participate in cleaning and maintaining the garage and equipment.
May assist with light welding duties related to mechanical repair and upfitting.
May help with over-the-phone and in-the-field troubleshooting and repair under supervision.
Complete necessary documentation, including electronic paperwork (work orders, invoices, timesheets, inventory levels).
Inspect tools and gear, ensuring proper condition and safety.
Other duties as required.
What You Bring:
Certificate of progress as either an Automotive Service Technician (AST) Apprentice or Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) Apprentice.
Meets minimum qualifications for the AST Apprenticeship program or HET Apprenticeship program.
A valid Class 5 operator’s license (Class 1 or 3 with Q endorsement is considered an asset).
Willingness to pursue additional certifications as required (e.g., Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program license).
Successful completion of company and provincial tests will be mandatory to remain in and advance through the apprenticeship process.
Customer service skills, interpersonal skills, and team focus coupled with the ability to follow instruction and procedures.
The candidate will be expected to display an increasing acceptance of responsibility throughout the apprenticeship and the ability to work alone at the journeyperson level upon completion of the apprenticeship period.
Ability to work well within a team environment.
Ability to take personal ownership in advancing through the apprenticeship program.
The successful candidate will be required to attend training as scheduled.
Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
Ability to work in all weather conditions and on uneven surfaces.
Some travel and out of town work may be required during progression.
The apprentice is responsible for purchasing and maintaining the personal hand tools required to perform duties as they progress through the apprenticeship program.
