Senior Civil Resident Engineer

Klohn Crippen Berger (KCB) has an opening for a Senior Civil Resident Engineer to join us for a site-based role on Vancouver Island. This position will be working as part of the Power and Transportation group on the Strathcona Dam Water Discharge Upgrade Project. As a Senior Resident Engineer, you will be the on-site technical authority overseeing the construction of a major hydropower rehabilitation project. The ideal candidiate will be located on Vancouver Island for the duration of the project.
Duties will include:
Execution of activities related to construction and installation of structures for a major clean energy project
Develop a strong understanding of the scope/specifications/Issued for Construction Drawings and contractor prepared drawings/submittals, to ensure the contractor’s work activities are completed in conformance with the contract and design/approved work methods
Coordinating and actively communicating with the professionals of record from the KCB engineering team about key site decisions and clarifications.
Review and participate in sign-off of quality control/assurance documentation relating to the contractor witness and hold points as required by contract documents, IFC drawings and ITP’s
Coordination with multiple stakeholders, including consultants and contractors
Active participation in all HSE protocols
Perform site inspections and provide on-site engineering support to ensure construction activities comply with design plans, contract commitments and safety regulations.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including clients, engineers, and project managers, to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and recommend solutions to keep projects on track and within budget.
Prepare and review technical reports, documentation, project proposals, construction summary reports, and drawings.
Manage a team of field engineers responsible for monitoring the work on-site including establishing site rotations, mentoring younger staff, and coordinating with KCB project managers and discipline leads regarding resource requirements throughout the construction period.
What we require:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in managing heavy civil, earthworks, mining or hydropower construction projects
Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).
A valid Class 5 Drivers License in Good Standing is a condition of employment
A mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol test may be required at the start of employment
Strong written and verbal English communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to prepare technical reports, memos, and presentations.
Ability to work 10 or more hours a day.
The salary for this position is $130,000 to $180,000 per year. Salary is based on applicable experience, education, and skill level. In addition to salary total rewards includes:
