We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the
listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible
remote culture.
About This Role
As part of Intersect’s Environmental & Permitting team, you’ll support the
development of large-scale energy projects across the Western U.S. and Great
Plains. You’ll help craft compliant, community-focused permitting strategies for
solar, wind, storage, data center, and transmission projects, collaborating
closely with teams across development, legal, real estate, and engineering to
advance Intersect’s growth pipeline. This is a growth-focused role for someone
eager to build expertise across environmental policy, project finance, and
stakeholder engagement. The position is expected to start as soon as possible,
with a 4–6 week training period to reach full productivity by the end of the
first quarter following hire.
Team Overview
This team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect’s mission to accelerate
the energy transition by ensuring that every project we develop is
environmentally sound, responsibly sited, and fully permitted. The Environmental
& Permitting team bridges technical analysis and stakeholder collaboration —
engaging agencies, communities, and partners to secure approvals that enable
project success. Joining this team means gaining deep experience in
environmental review, land use, and policy while contributing to impactful,
large-scale energy solutions.
What You’ll Do
Drive Environmental and Permitting Execution
• Prepare, submit, and coordinate agency approval of discretionary permits and
environmental entitlements critical to project success
• Manage external consultants conducting biological, cultural, and other
resource surveys; ensure quality and timeliness of diligence deliverables
• Coordinate with internal teams across departments to align permitting
strategies with project goals, schedules, and financing milestones
• Track and summarize permitting requirements and regulatory changes to inform
development strategy
Support Cross-Functional Project Development
• Partner with the Development team to evaluate zoning, floodplain, biological
resources, cultural constraints, and entitlement processes to identify potential
risks and opportunities
• Develop permitting schedules, budgets, and documentation to support project
readiness and lender diligence
• Contribute to internal briefings and materials for executive review and
project approvals
Engage Stakeholders and Build Relationships
• Participate in public meetings, agency consultations, and industry association
discussions; summarize key insights for internal teams
• Prepare clear, professional presentation materials for meetings with
regulatory agencies, elected officials, environmental NGOs, and Native American
tribes
• Assist in coordination of community engagement activities and project hearings
Ensure Environmental Compliance
• Support preparation of permit compliance documentation and reports to
regulatory agencies
• Review permit conditions and assist in maintaining a comprehensive project
compliance matrix
• Provide permitting exhibits and compliance materials for contracts with EPC
contractors

• Familiarity with land use planning and environmental regulations (CEQA, NEPA,
ESA, MBTA, BGEPA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act)
• Comfort learning new software tools and critically reviewing AI-assisted
analyses
• Experience working with local, state, or federal agencies, environmental NGOs,
or tribal governments a plus
• Familiarity with Google Earth or ArcGIS preferred
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or 2+ years of relevant experience
preferred
• Ability and willingness to travel within the U.S. at least quarterly, with
additional site visits as needed
• Curiosity, initiative, and a strong desire to contribute to meaningful energy
development work
