The Opportunity As a Senior Specialist, Data Governance & Data Quality at Aviva Canada, you’ll play a key role in shaping and implementing data governance practices across the organization. Working closely with the Data Governance Officer and cross-functional teams, you’ll help drive strategic initiatives, ensure compliance with global standards, and embed governance into both projects and day-to-day operations. This is a unique opportunity to influence how data is managed, protected, and leveraged to support business outcomes—while contributing to a culture of care, collaboration, and innovation. What you’ll do Implement and support data governance strategy, policies, standards, and processes across the organization. Ensure compliance with the enterprise data governance framework and escalate exceptions to the Data Governance Office (DGO) and Data Council. Manage critical data processes, including data mapping, attestations, and impact assessments for new initiatives. Maintain enterprise data catalog, lineage, and metadata tools; oversee governance technologies and reporting. Drive compliance with global data governance and data quality standards; provide guidance on monitoring activities. Collaborate with global teams and business units to improve governance maturity and embed auditable processes. Develop and deliver data governance training programs and educational sessions in Canada. Support records management, third-party data risk processes, and remediation of governance risks. Prepare and publish monthly Canadian data governance reports for the global team. What you’ll bring Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Industry Knowledge: Solid experience in Property & Casualty insurance. 5–7 years in data governance, data controls, risk management, and data quality. Proven ability to implement governance standards, frameworks, and operating models. Hands-on experience with data governance platforms for metadata and data quality management, as well as global risk and compliance platforms. Minimum 5 years managing data governance as a structured program with defined milestones and targets. Advanced expertise in compliance and data risk management. Strong knowledge of third-party management and ability to champion governance with partners. Experience in data quality reporting, submission collection, and day-to-day BAU tasks. Proven ability to define and implement policies and procedures. Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively across teams. High level of initiative with a track record of achieving challenging goals. Strong influencing skills to drive results from resources not under direct control. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. What makes you stand out Proven experience as a Data Quality Lead within an insurance or financial services organization.
