Overview
Working in a team environment, the Project Manager Junior (PMJ) will lead the implementation of Capital Projects for the Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution divisions throughout the project lifecycle, working closely with different departments in a multidisciplinary environment. These activities include but are not limited to coordinating resources (internal and external), overseeing construction activities, managing contracts, following project schedules, supporting project scoping, cost control and budgeting, and creating reports as required by the project or the department. All of these while following NTPC's best work practices and safety regulations.
The Junior Project manager is expected to develop skills and competence and transition to the role of Project Manager.
Responsibilities
Participate in the continuous improvement of the Health & Safety programs, environmental programs, and NTPC's safety culture.
Lead delivery of turn-key and maintenance capital projects following NTPC project management processes, which include but are not limited to:
Manage projects of lower complexity that range in size up to $1 million.
Scope new projects in consultation with Operations and Projects & Engineering.
Managing contracts for dedicated projects, following all applicable management policies, procedures, regulations, and permits. This also includes reviewing tender documents and providing feedback for awards recommendations.
Manage Internal and External resources (contractors, consultants, and others) for specific project requirements to achieve project completion, ensuring accurate, high-quality engineering, construction, and commissioning work throughout the life cycle of each project.
As required, communicate progress status through meetings, emails, calls, video chats and others.
Manage project budget, schedule, scope changes, permits and regulations to meet Capital investment plant requirements.
Ensure the safety of employees, contractors and the public following NTPC safe work practices.
Construction site supervision to monitoring activities as required, which requires completion of the NSA’s Supervisor Safety Training course.
Construction site visits as required.
Support other Project Managers and Capital Program Managers with project-related activities such as project documentation development and review, procurement and contracting strategy related to construction activities. Also, help them solve complex project issues relating to engineering design, materials, and non-performance of contractors.
Produce project status reports by collecting information from different sources (other Project Managers, Asset Managers, Operations, and Consultants), including project information such as status, scope, schedule, cost, design, and construction progress.
Maintain a high level of project management expertise by learning new methods applicable to the successful, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of projects and by attending courses and seminars.
Help build, develop, and maintain any business relationships.
Actively participates in project meetings and provides relevant input.
Provides support on project management matters to project team.
Ensure that project documentation is properly filed and retained in accordance with NTPC's file retention policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Post-secondary Certificate, Diploma, Degree or higher in a relevant program such as project management, construction management, PMI certification, or similar is required.
A relevant trade such as electrical, mechanical, civil, or construction management with appropriate work experience may be considered.
A Certificate in Project Management, Construction Management, or any PMI certification is considered an asset.
Minimum 3 years of related experience in a construction, utility or industrial environment required.
Construction management experience in Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Management (EPCM) companies is considered an asset.
Above-average computer knowledge in MS Windows environment and MS Office Suite applications such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Proficient in Internet Systems applications, emails, and cloud services.
Ability to work effectively and independently in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.
Must undergo a successful criminal records check.
Salary for this position ranges from $57.85/hr - $70.28/hr. plus location allowance of approximately $3,823 per annum. This position is located in Hay River, NT. Relocation assistance may be provided.
