ABOUT THE ROLE
The Production Leader – Level 1 is a front-line leadership role responsible for supporting daily production operations, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency across the manufacturing floor.
This position is designed as a developmental leadership role, providing the opportunity to gain practical experience and prepare for future advancement to higher Production Leader levels through structured mentorship, training, and hands-on supervision.
The Production Leader – Level 1 plays a key role in fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement, while ensuring that all work meets Steelway’s high standards for quality and safety.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Production Leader – Level 1 supports the day-to-day activities of assigned production teams and ensures that operations align with company goals for safety, productivity, and quality.
Key responsibilities include:
Promote and enforce a strong safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with Steelway’s health and safety policies and all Ministry of Labour standards.
Conduct and document daily shop inspections using eCompliance and follow up on corrective actions as required.
Provide front-line supervision and leadership on the production floor, maintaining workflow, supporting shift coverage, and ensuring production targets are met.
Assist with new employee orientation, onboarding, and General Labour (GL) training and assessments to ensure consistent skill development and performance.
Support ongoing training and cross-skilling initiatives, identifying opportunities for team growth and development.
Collaborate with other Supervisors, Production Leaders, Project Managers, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure smooth operations and on-time delivery.
Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement efforts to resolve safety, quality, or production issues.
Assist with administrative duties, including scheduling, vacation planning, shift coverage, and documentation of training and inspections.
Accurately maintain production and performance records, ensuring all data is entered into management systems in a timely manner.
Demonstrate consistent adherence to Steelway’s core values and commitment to partner enrichment.
Actively pursue leadership development opportunities to prepare for advancement to Production Leader – Level 2.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
3–5 years of supervisory or lead hand experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Proven ability to coach, motivate, and support teams in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with production reporting, scheduling, and workplace safety standards.
Demonstrated mechanical or technical aptitude.
Experience leading shifts of 20 or more employees (preferred).
Post-secondary education in a related technical field or equivalent experience (preferred).
A proactive, solutions-driven approach and a passion for continuous improvement.
