Know our team
Nutrition International’s Corporate Services (CS) unit is a dedicated team of Finance and Administrative experts with extensive global experience. The unit leads on providing global Accounting, Finance, Grant Finance & Compliance, Global Risk, Assurance & Fraud, Contracting and Procurement, Facilities Management, and Information Management and Information Technology (IM/IT). Currently, Nutrition International is seeking applications for a Sr. Manager, Grant Finance & Compliance to be based in Ottawa, Canada, working 2 days/week in-office.
About you
You are someone with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred. A recognized accounting qualification (CPA, CA, CMA, or equivalent) is a strong asset. You have a minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in grant finance, donor reporting, and compliance, including at least 2 years of supervisory experience in an international NGO or donor-funded environment. You have demonstrated experience preparing and managing complex multi-year budgets and financial proposals (CAD 3M+).
You must have familiarity with major institutional donors such as GAC, USAID, FCDO, EU, DFAT, and multilateral organizations. Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Net Suite) and budgeting platforms (e.g., BOARD) preferred. You have strong team leadership and people management experience, and high proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial systems. You have the proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
Fluency in English is required. French will be considered an asset.
About the role
In this role you will:
Grant Financial Management
• Lead the preparation, review, and consolidation of donor financial proposals, budgets, and forecasts to ensure accuracy, realism, and compliance with donor and NI standards.
• Oversee the financial management of grants, including budget monitoring, expenditure review, and reporting to donors and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure timely submission of donor financial reports, budget realignments, forecasts, and close-out documentation.
• Support donor audit processes, including preparation of supporting documentation, responding to queries, and ensuring appropriate resolution of findings.
• Implement and monitor NI’s compliance framework to ensure alignment with donor regulations, internal controls, and eligibility requirements.
Project & Portfolio Support
• Partner with program managers and regional finance teams to provide financial oversight, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions for variances and compliance issues.
• Ensure grant budgets are linked to programmatic workplans, aligned with donor requirements, and updated as needed throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support the development of financial analysis and tools that improve visibility into project performance, support decision-making, and promote efficient use of grant funds.
• Ensure partner agreements reflect donor flow-down clauses and that sub-grant financial management and reporting meet NI and donor standards.
Financial Systems, Budgeting & Controls
• Ensure integration, reconciliation, and data integrity of grant financial information across NI’s ERP (NICOR), budgeting, and reporting platforms.
• Support alignment of donor budgets and forecasts with NI’s operating budgets, ensuring consistency across systems and reports.
• Develop and maintain standard templates, guidance, and procedures to strengthen consistency and accuracy in budgeting, reporting, and compliance processes.
• Collaborate with corporate and regional finance teams to support month-end, year-end, and audit requirements.
Leadership & Capacity Building
• Supervise, coach, and develop a team of Grant Finance and Compliance Managers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
• Provide mentorship and capacity-building support to project and country teams on donor compliance, budgeting, and financial management practices.
Occasional international travel may be required, typically not exceeding two weeks per trip.
