Are you the one we’re looking for?
We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Newcomers Community Outreach Coordinator who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness, and empowerment; to our clients, families, and each other.
The Newcomers Community Outreach Coordinator is to support the positive integration of Government Assisted Refugees and other vulnerable newcomers in the Hamilton and Brantford communities through community capacity building to create a more welcoming environment for newcomers.
This position is a unionized, permanent, full-time position. The rate of pay is $23.93 per hour. Hours are 37.5 per week.
Key Responsibilities:
.Work with the Newcomer Services team to build new and existing community connections through community partnerships, networking, special events, outreach activities, and working groups to meet the needs of Government Assisted Refugees and other vulnerable newcomers during their community integration and decrease gaps in service delivery.
Increase volunteer opportunities and community connections for government-assisted refugees to increase their social networks, capacity, and well-being and encourage the contribution of newcomers in their new community.
Facilitating weekly workshops targeting our clients on various settlement-related topics.
1 day a week at the RAP program to build rapport with newly arrived GARs and introduce roles and upcoming workshops.
Attend all team meetings and trainings.
Document all group/ workshops on ETO/ICARE.
Supervise/manage/volunteer for virtual English conversation circles 1x/ week.
Organize group volunteer opportunities for corporate teams, families, and groups in Newcomer Services and be at these volunteer events as needed.
Represent Wesley at meetings and events.
Other duties as assigned.
What you will bring:
.Post-secondary education, preferably in immigration, diversity, Canadian studies, volunteer management, and/or equivalent job-related experience.
Demonstrated strong understanding and success in different levels of Community Capacity Building and Advocacy skills, preferably in regards to newcomers and diverse populations.
Experience and understanding of community partnership- outreaching and networking strategies.
Excellent inter-personal skills with a diverse range of individuals and a positive and professional attitude.
Strong understanding of Cultural Responsiveness, AOP/anti-racist approach, empowerment-oriented practice, client-centred approach, trauma, and violence-informed care.
