This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Principal Database Engineer, Data Engineering & Monetization in North America.
This is a high-impact, senior-level role designed for an expert in database architecture and distributed systems. You will shape the foundation of enterprise-scale data platforms, designing robust, scalable solutions that power both SaaS and self-managed deployments. Your work will influence database reliability, operational efficiency, and performance while enabling engineering teams through self-service tools and best practices. This role offers significant autonomy, collaboration with top-tier engineers, and the chance to solve complex technical problems while setting industry standards for database management and operations.
Accountabilities:
· Lead database architecture and strategy for large-scale, distributed PostgreSQL environments, ensuring reliability, high availability, and long-term scalability.
· Build proactive database health and reliability frameworks, including automated monitoring, remediation, and predictive analytics.
· Establish and enforce database best practices across engineering teams, providing guidance on migrations, query optimization, and self-service tools.
· Oversee end-to-end observability and operational excellence, leading incident response and creating automated processes to prevent recurring issues.
· Evaluate and implement modern database technologies and data stores, driving adoption and shaping organizational data strategy.
· Collaborate with product and infrastructure teams to align priorities, deliver incremental improvements, and scale solutions for both SaaS and enterprise deployments.
· Maintain hands-on involvement in the codebase to ensure technical credibility and mentor other engineers.
· Extensive experience architecting, operating, and optimizing PostgreSQL in large-scale, distributed systems with high availability and disaster recovery.
· Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, including query planning, WAL mechanics, vacuum processes, and storage optimization.
· Proven track record of designing and maintaining highly distributed production databases with automated failover and self-healing capabilities.
· Expertise in infrastructure-as-code, GitOps practices, security hardening, and SRE principles in database operations.
· Strong coding and debugging skills across full stack, from low-level systems to front-end components.
· Ability to influence organizational adoption of modern database technologies based on evidence and experience.
· Hands-on experience with distributed system challenges such as scaling, sharding, and multi-database support.
· Strong collaboration, communication, and strategic problem-solving skills.
· Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
