The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) is seeking a self-motivated and detail-oriented individual to provide support as an Inspector within the Liquor Licensing and Inspections Branch.
This position is required to work on-site, reporting to the Field Manager, Liquor Inspections.
Inspectors attend permitted establishments and functions to promote and ensure compliance with provincial requirements and expectations respecting the sale, distribution, and consumption of beverage alcohol. This will be accomplished using a variety of strategies, including, as appropriate, education, inspections, and investigations. In reviewing operations, Inspectors may take statements from complainants and witnesses, as well as prepare reports to record compliance history to support the sanction process. Inspectors provide educational support to permittees, other enforcement agencies, and the general public. Inspectors are required to serve legal documents, testify in court or before the Liquor and Gaming Commission if necessary. In addition, the Inspectors perform regulatory duties related to Texas Hold’em poker tournaments and Video Lottery Terminals.

Primary Responsibilities
Attends permitted establishments and functions to review the sale, consumption and distribution of beverage alcohol relative to the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act, the Alcohol Control Regulations and Licensing policy.
Conducts inspections of restaurants, taverns, special use facilities, manufacturers, and special occasion permitted facilities to promote adherence to the Act, Regulations, SLGA policies and VLT Site Contractor Agreement.
Provides education and support on the rules and regulations to current and potential permittees, other regulatory agencies and the general public.
Meets with new permittees to review the rules, regulations, and legislation regarding the operation of a licensed establishment.
Serves notices of suspension including Liquor and Gaming Commission hearing documents. Testifies at court and Commission hearings.
Assists in the legal seizure of assets involving a permitted establishment and handles/disposes of liquor.
Prepares detailed inspection and investigation reports for the purpose of recording compliance history and to support the sanction process.
Conducts inspections of establishments to determine suitability for the issuance of a permit.
Performs regulatory duties related to Texas Hold’em poker tournaments and Video Lottery Terminals to determine compliance with the Act and Regulations.
Required Technical Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
Minimum of five years of experience in law or regulatory enforcement. Policing experience is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation, terms and conditions, and associated policy, typically acquired by working in a regulatory environment.
Knowledge of applicable federal, provincial, and municipal acts, regulations, legislation, statutes and bylaws pertaining to liquor and gaming activities.
Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, including experience in working with diverse stakeholder groups.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in conflict resolution techniques and approaches.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in applicable inspection, enforcement, investigative techniques, procedures and documentation.
Licensing Requirement
This position requires Gaming Regulator Registration.
Travel Requirement
This position requires travel within the province, sometimes during inclement weather and/or poor travel conditions. Overnight stays are also required.
Working Conditions
The work period for an Inspector is unregulated within any working day or series of working days, consisting of 224 hours and 2 earned days off in 6 weeks and no more than 12 hours in a day or more than 6 days in a calendar week.
An Inspector is required to work hours that correspond to licensed establishment peak business hours. As such, regular evening and weekend work is required at least 25% of the time and will fluctuate based on operational requirements.
In the course of their duties, an Inspector may need to interact with customers who are experiencing frustration or dissatisfaction. It is essential that they demonstrate a commitment to safety by ensuring the well-being of themselves and others within the workplace.
