How you’ll make a difference: As a Registration Clerk, you will be at the heart of our claims process. You will accurately create new claims from reports submitted by employers, workers, and medical providers, and review new information to update existing claims. Your meticulous work ensures that claims are correctly created, which is vital for their adjudication and ongoing management. You will also use your critical thinking skills to code claims and index documents these documents to claim files. Your responsibilities: Be the first point of intake for newly reported claims at WCB. Accurately enter worker information in WCB’s electronic claims management system. Review injury reporting to determine the nature of the worker’s injury and the type of claim associated with the injury. Identify if existing claims for the worker exist or determine if a new claim should be created. Use claim-related medical and accident information to code the injury based on the National Standard of Injury Program (NWISP - National Work Injury Statistical Program). Review injury reporting to determine the employer associated with the injury and charge the claim appropriately. Review claims and update coding/demographic information for previously missing data when new information is available and/or at the request of claim owners. Communicate verbally and in writing with stakeholders to confirm or obtain information required to register claims accurately and avoid duplication. Communicate verbally and in writing with workers and employers to obtain information required to keep demographic and employment information. Review and verify/update address information for returned mail received at WCB. Index and upload documents to claim files. Your experience and skills: High school diploma supplemented with university or college education, or two years related experience. Aptitude for using computer applications and following document handling business guidelines. Knowledge of anatomy, injury and medical terminology would be considered an asset. Demonstrated ability to work independently, show initiative, effective time management, priority setting and organizational skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills to request/relay information to/from customers. Demonstrated ability to work on a team. Commitment to quality outcomes and to provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers. Effective in a multitasking environment with ability to handle large volume of work and change focus with little or no notice. Knowledge of ATIA and privacy principles, sound judgment with high regard for confidential information.
