Why You’ll Love This Role Lumentum is seeking a Director of Product Line Management (PLM) to lead our Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS) product line within the Transport Business Unit. This is a high-impact role that blends strategic vision with operational execution—driving roadmap definition, business growth, and market leadership in “Scale-Across” datacenter connectivity and Metro/Long Haul telecom systems. As the business owner for the industry leading WSS portfolio, you will shape product and technology strategy, deliver profitable growth, and ensure that Lumentum’s optical solutions remain indispensable to global network evolution. You’ll partner closely with R&D, Operations, Sales, and senior BU leadership to deliver differentiated products, operational excellence, and lasting customer value. What You’ll Be Doing This leadership role spans full product lifecycle ownership—from concept and business justification through end of life—with accountability for business performance, roadmap direction, and execution. Owning P&L drivers across revenue, costs, inventory, margin, and capacity investments to achieve sustainable growth. Partnering with Operations, Finance, and R&D to align business strategy, forecast accuracy, and execution readiness. Building trusted relationships with customers, understanding their roadmaps, and translating needs into winning solutions. Conducting market and competitive analysis to assess TAM/SAM/SOM, identify growth opportunities, and guide investment priorities. Defining product requirements with R&D to ensure delivery of the right products on time, at cost, and at target profitability. Driving design-win success by prioritizing opportunities that strengthen Lumentum’s position across cloud and telecom markets. Setting and executing pricing strategies and commercial frameworks that support value-based selling and profitability goals. Leading cost reduction and margin optimization initiatives across the WSS portfolio. Steering the technology and product roadmap, ensuring alignment with company strategy, market evolution, and customer engagement. Partnering with Marketing to position WSS products effectively, shaping launch plans and promoting thought leadership in the market. What We’re Looking For Education: Degree in Engineering, Physics, Optics, or Semiconductors—or a business degree with strong technical grounding. MBA or advanced technical degree desirable. Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience in product management, senior engineering, or business operations. Demonstrated success managing P&L, roadmap, and portfolio strategy in optical components, photonics, or telecom systems. Deep understanding of optical line systems, including WSS/ROADM architectures, amplification, and performance monitoring. Strong analytical, strategic, and communication skills, with a proven ability to influence across functions and global teams. A track record of customer engagement and commercial execution at both technical and executive levels. Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, build alignment, and deliver measurable results in complex, fast-moving markets. Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills; comfort working across multi-site and multicultural environments. The ideal candidate will bring a deep industry perspective, grounded in experience with leading hyperscale and carrier optical line system architectures. This insight will be instrumental in guiding Lumentum’s product strategy and ensuring that our WSS portfolio remains closely aligned with the needs of these fast-evolving and mission-critical applications.
