What you’ll do:
Reporting to the General Manager, the Finance Manager is responsible for leading the finance function in the organization; including day-to-day financial execution, establishing internal controls, ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements, producing timely and accurate financial reports and strategic leadership. The Finance Manager is a key resource to the senior management team and the Board of Directors by providing financial analysis and supporting strategic initiatives. The Finance Manager will exemplify and promote the Co-op brand.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Living the Brand
To consistently represent the Co-op Brand; to know, understand and live Gardenland Co-op’s vision, mission and values.
To be a Co-op ambassador by understanding the Cooperative Retailing System and have an excellent understanding of the cooperative business model.
To consistently deliver exceptional service to management, staff, board of directors and members.
Financial Management, Reporting and Analysis
Responsible for all accounting duties including month-end and year-end processes.
Prepare financial statements, budgets and year-end financial statements.
Prepare annual report documents for Annual General Membership Meeting.
Manage cash flow and line of credit.
Ensure accuracy and timely maintenance of general ledgers and related financial records.
Maintain compliance for all financial reporting.
Prepare all government reporting and tax remittances, not including income tax.
Identify internal control deficiencies to prevent fraud or error.
Signing officer for organization.
Leadership
Oversee the development and execution of Gardenland Co-op’s financial strategy.
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the management team.
Actively participate in strategic planning and decision making for the organization.
Counsel the GM on matters of significant financial impact to the organization.
Keep abreast of financial trends and best practices.
Management
Provide leadership, direction and oversight to the administration/accounting staff.
Responsible for finance department goal setting, performance management, training and
development, safety and maintaining a healthy workplace culture.
Support the management team at Co-op by providing financial analysis, timely and accurate financial reports, process improvements and other supporting duties.
Demonstrate strong business acumen with a solid understanding of workplace rights and legislation and workplace safety standards and legislation.
Personal Development
Attend FCL and industry seminars.
Seek ongoing professional development in the areas of accounting, management and leadership.
Qualifications
Certified Professional Accountant designation required.
8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, ideally in a retail environment.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Proven leadership experience.
Strong analytical skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to balance required technical skills with strategic mindset.
Highly proficient in Excel.
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Outlook, Excel.
Experience with the Cooperative Retailing System preferred.
