Friends of Ruby (FoR) is dedicated to supporting the well-being of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth aged 16-29 through mental health services, social programs, and housing. We operate a Youth Drop-In Centre, offering barrier-free counselling, hot meals, and community programming, and a Transitional Home, providing emergency and long-term housing with life-skills support.
If you're passionate about creating safe, inclusive spaces for marginalized youth, this is your chance to make an impact as a Youth Support Worker!
We are looking for individuals to support our warming centre,
which offers a vital refuge during the harsh winter months, providing 2SLGBTQIA+ youth with safety, comfort, and affirming support when they need it most. The warming centre will run from December 2025 to April 2026. Staff are needed for 8-hour shifts,
mainly on Saturdays or Sundays, and on an on-call basis as required.
About the Role
As a Youth Support Worker, you'll:
Welcome and orient youth, providing compassionate, non-judgmental support.
Assist with basic needs like food, hygiene, and clothing.
Build connections with community partners to amplify support.
Support daily operations, including reception tasks, snack prep, and maintaining a clean, safe space.
Provide light programming for youth in the space
Provide trauma-informed, harm-reduction-based care and crisis support.
Collaborate with volunteers and teammates to foster a positive, inclusive environment.
What You Bring
Post-Secondary education or experience in social services, social sciences, or related fields.
3+ years working with youth or in mental health, addictions, or residential settings.
Familiarity with anti-oppressive, trauma-informed approaches.
Skilled in crisis intervention and post-crisis response.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team; to manage multiple priorities calmly and effectively.
Bonus: Training in CPI, ASIST, First Aid, CPR or UMAB.

What We Need
Legally authorized to work in Canada and provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
Available to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays as required by the Drop-In and House programs.
This is an on-site position requiring travel to various community-based settings as needed.
