Job Description
The Investment Analyst, Investment Operations will enhance the investment operations function to support growth in assets under management and increase investment process sophistication. The ideal candidate showcases passion to excel in Operations, has a keen interest in learning, and reflects UBCIM’s core values.
Team-Specific Responsibilities
Investment Operations
Maintain the internal Investment Book of Record by recording accounting entries and understanding the specifics of complex transactions
Reconcile the investment accounting & performance system
Assist with monitoring cash flows, preparing trade plans, coordinating trade instructions and instructing transfers between investment managers and the custodian
Liaise with the custodian to ensure accurate and timely delivery of monthly reports and other deliverables
Review external investment manager fee invoices and calculations
Assist with the completion of investment fund documents and overall fund onboarding
Liaise and request reports/information from external investment managers and peers
Assist in the development and continued enhancement of internal controls and monitoring procedures, while also streamlining, automating, and enhancement of existing processes.
Administration and Reporting
Prepare and distribute investment performance reports to the UBCIM team
Assist with the preparation of reports for the UBCIM Board and University stakeholders
Assist with annual audits, preparation of financial statements and note disclosures
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree required, Finance, Commerce, Accounting or similar discipline preferred
Working knowledge or experience in Fund Accounting, Custody, and/or Investor Reporting
Functional understanding of Investment Performance Measurement and Reporting would be considered an asset
Proven experience in automating processes and/or enhancing internal controls especially regarding data-driven processes or functions. Experience in using AI to enable efficiency and scale would be an asset.
Demonstrates critical thinking and intellectual curiosity, with the ability to analyze complex issues, challenge assumptions, and identify opportunities for process improvement and risk mitigation.
Self-motivated and highly organized with the ability to prioritize and multi-task, embodying flexibility and agility in a high-performance environment
Proven ability to structure communications, both written & verbal, to articulate ideas and resolve issues across all levels of the organisation and externally with our partners and stakeholders
Knowledge of systems such as MSCI Total Plan Manager, Canoe Intelligence, Ion Backstop is highly valued but not required.
UBCIM will consider candidates with varying levels of qualification and experience. Total compensation will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.
This role is primarily an in-office role and as such the successful candidate must reside in the Metro Vancouver Area.
