Position description
The Town of Orangeville has an opportunity available for the position of Co-ordinator, Parks. Reporting to the Supervisor, Parks, this position is responsible for the operational maintenance services to the Town’s public outdoor recreation facilities and open spaces which include but are not limited to trails, sports fields, outdoor rinks, splash pads and snow removal. The Co-ordinator works in collaboration with the Supervisor to establish the day to day work plans that are effective and efficient to meet the needs of the Town.
Job duties
Coordinating resource requirements, inventories, parks maintenance work plans and staff schedules; Developing and communicating job standards, procedures and training programs; Delivering of on the job and safety training, monitoring training and licences, and maintaining a staff skill level inventory.
Providing direction to outside contractors including capital projects and coordinating the work with other departments; Assisting with the annual capital and operating budgets.
Acting as the Supervisor in the absence of the Supervisor, Parks; Providing input for full-time performance appraisals and completing part-time staff performance appraisals.
Conducting operations and maintenance to various parks and associated amenities and facilities to include but not limited to general repairs, painting, snow control, building outdoor ice pads, water testing, playground inspections, splash pad maintenance, cleaning, refuse collection, and general maintenance of trees, shrubs, perennial and annual plantings.
Performing operation and maintenance of sports fields and turf maintenance to include layouts of fields and multi-use sports pads, grooming, start up and shut down of irrigation systems, cutting, trimming, top dressing, over seeding, fertilizing, aerating, sodding and watering.
Operating a variety of equipment to conduct parks operations and sport field/turf maintenance. Performing daily and seasonal maintenance on equipment/vehicles, i.e. oil and hydraulic fluid changes, air filters, and greasing of equipment.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Landscape or Horticultural Technical knowledge obtained through completion of post-secondary school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a park maintenance environment and one (1) year of work experience in a lead hand or supervisory role.
Playground Inspection and Landscape Pesticide Certificate
Certified Pool Operators Certificate is considered an asset.
Mechanical skills including the ability to operate various, parks equipment, and the ability to perform basic maintenance on all parks related equipment and facilities.
Proficient communications skills, both verbal and written; interpersonal skill, dealing with staff and the public.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel, Recreation Management Software, and time and attendance software.
Hourly range: $38.41 to $44.94, Band 8 on the Town’s 2025 pay grid plus a comprehensive benefits package.
