Who is a Manager of Accounting – General Accounting? The Manager of Accounting - General Accounting is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the company’s financial information through the monitoring, analysis, and maintenance of processes, reporting, and reconciliation responsibilities. This role is responsible for overseeing the production and distribution of monthly financial reports, as well as developing and documenting accounting policies and procedures and helping to implement strategic initiatives related to accounting and financial reporting for an ever-changing operation. By ensuring that accounting processes are efficient, and the company’s financial statements are accurate, this role allows executive management to make informed business decisions and contributes to the company’s financial health. What will you be doing? Oversees the preparation, analysis, and production of the monthly financial reports. Prepares, coordinates, and monitors the monthly accounting schedule with assistance of the Compensation Department. Coordinates, reviews, and analyzes the recording of financial transactions from club management systems and other sources into the general ledger and financial statements Ensures the accuracy of the financial information especially the revenue, associated deferrals, various income and expenses Supervises the production of financial reports, acting as a backup as needed Supervises appropriate entries to and usage, clearing, and reconciliations of various accounts including general payables, deferred revenue, clearing accounts, shareholder investment, and charity payable. Reconciles and/or manages general ledger accounts assigned including deferred revenue, and general accrued liabilities. Reviews and allocates legal expenses to appropriate companies Maintains, remits, advises on and reconciles commodity tax accounts (GST, HST, QST and PST) Coordinates, prepares, maintains and distributes the monthly Executive Financial Reporting Package on a timely basis to senior management Manages direct reports and the people requirements of the General Accounting Team using provided tools and resources to ensure the successful execution of all key responsibilities and tasks, retention of great talent, and high Associate engagement. Facilitates recruitment of direct reports alongside the Talent Acquisition Department to ensure adequate resourcing based on approved Department/Team budget Leads the onboarding, coaching, learning, development, and performance management of all direct reports to ensure a positive and safe working experience Performs various responsibilities including reconciliations that assist with and/or enhance the integrity of the company’s financial results and systems. Sets up and maintains general ledger departments and accounts in the accounting system to ensure financial reporting is appropriately updated and accounts are used appropriately Assists with maintenance, review, and improvement of the accounting and financial reporting software including running financial reports and in-depth analysis of financial results to identify errors and inconsistencies Works with external auditors to provide information necessary to perform annual or tax audits Works with external service providers for commodity tax reviews to identify errors, risk and areas for cost savings Maintains or supervises the maintenance of the books and records for other legal entities associated with or affiliated with the company. Oversees all financial transactions for the GoodLife Kids Foundation. This includes performing and supervising reconciliations, audit planning and support, financial statement production and analysis, budget assistance, record-keeping, preparation for quarterly board meetings, cashflow analysis, and financial management of all funds. Supervises and provides support for other legal entities in support of the owner of the company including reconciliations. Do you have what it takes? Post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting or business with accounting focus or equivalent accounting experience 3 years’ previous experience in accounting or bookkeeping 1 year supervisory or management Proficiency in the use of computers for email and internet Excellent supervisory skills Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel especially for use with large volume of data Advanced financial reporting and accounting software knowledge Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to convey information and influence outcomes Ability to manage and effectively prioritize multiple commitments What’s in it for you? Salary Range: $86,000-$128,000 Target Hiring Range: $86,000-$96,600 *The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. The actual starting salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
